Hello,

Have you been spending/loosing credits?

Yes. At first I thought it was because I spent some credits. But I can't find the logic for the rating... I earned some credits back but didn't get my previous rating... Then I just jumped between system, and my rating increased... I didn't buy anything or do contract... just jumping earned me rating...

I'm lost :D

Were you playing online at the time? Perhaps the delay was because of that. I've noticed that sometimes information can be delayed for several minutes when online... in particular with updates on the Nav and Quadrant map.

Get hold of the Hints&Tips Guide from SeeJay's site (Beware though it has a lot of spoilers as well as info!) There's a detailed explanation about ranks. Section 8 - page 147->

Your military rank comes from number of contracts and kills (therefore have to be done in a warzone, though you don't have to be in a military frame.

Your civilian rank comes from number of contracts and credits - credit is easier to gain rank with so if you go just over the amount needed (contracts+credits) and then spend a lot your civilian rank will go down - once your got well over what you need then you can spend without worrying.

You gain one civilian point per (about 500k credits) plus one per contract (or per waypoint in bigger contracts) plus one per 10 kills during a contract - but you must be the pilot who actually fires the killing shot - shared kills aren't allowed! To buy your rank you will need about 5 billion credits to become a Legend. Add 10-20 million more and on the whole you don't have to worry about losing rank.

The higher your rank the more you get paid for contracts; a contract that earns 10000 when you start might earn 100000 when you have a high rank. but the more you will be charged for hangar fees, fuel, docking fees, station license costs.

This. I always play ONLINE, and what you describe is what happened. I guess that is a sort of desync between what I do and what the server display.

You should be aware if you are not that if you exit or loose connection without saving you negate any contracts you have done and loose anything that was not in your cargo bays before you started the current session. Also loosing connection online without saving as the same effect.

Since I have very unreliable internet and sometimes my laptop may crash I try to always do a QuickSave before and after a contracts or building stations or anything that affects my ship and rank and credits.

Aside from that I don't think I ever has my rank decrease - but then as I said - I've always tried to be extra careful about QuickSaves.
I have had a few times where I didn't do strict QSs and either crashed or lost connection or failed a conract and lost the work I had done after whatever the last QS was I did do.

As far as credits I don't know that my experience is of any help because of my level but I've spent up to 50mil or so building stations (but I started with about 1.05billion) and i saw no effect on my rank - but maybe it wouldn't affect my rank at that level - but afterwards I always go on some trade runs to get me back up to my comfort level - aka about 1.04billion or so.
Hope this helps a little. Oh, try not to fail many contracts - it's really bad if you have a crew (if you fail many). Failing one contract will drop your crew loyalty 1 to 2% so you can see if you fail too many they will jump ship and look for greener pastures.
That's why I especially do QSs with I'm doing combat contracts in my civvie frame so that if I do get killed I can if I choose to exit without saving and come back in with the last save and have my crew %s restored.
