Quest - capital ship

Post by Keitarooo »

No matter how much I keep trying, I fail this mission where you have to destroy the capital ship.

I have a few questions :

1) Does this quest mission require to have allies (multiplayer or AI) to complete ? Or is it doable alone ?

2) If doable alone, do I need a huge military ship or the best civ ship with custom weapon + crew + crazy missiles etc ? I though the quest was to "train" new players ? here the difficulty is insane...

I tried a few different approaches :

- Trying to clear the fighters. No matter how long, more and more keep coming.

- Focusing capital ship alone : I tried weapon subsystem, engines.... I get blowed up so fast....
I tried to approach from the rear (engine), the bottom, the top, ......

For the record, I have a legacy frame, shield 8, wing 11 (I guess), full exodus loaded (8), maxim-r and beam weapon. Shield energy x2. canon heat sink, repair system C2.

Any tips on doing this mission are welcome :)

Hello,

It is always handy to have as many wing men as possible.

You can hire wingmen and give them orders

Get hold of the Hints&Tips Guide from SeeJay's site (Beware: it does contain lots of spoilers)

page 183-185 has lots of tips

page 33 has a link to a video by Red Falcon

:cool: I try never to take on a capital ship alone ... especially in a war zone. The only quest contract you must do in SP is the race. Which is why I do the rest of them in MP.

I don't know how much this will help with your Cap ship mission but I will make these suggestions.
(1) change your shields to 10 abvsolutely
(2) on a legacy drop your Engine to Richton 5 or 6 at best - stronger engines aren't foinf to get you anything.
(3) drop your Wings to 10 (whcih you can do with an Engine 5).

The Legacy has decent enough agility that you should be able to function well with those configs.
My Legacy is E5, S10, W10, Fuel1500, 5 Cago bays, 3 Crew, 25 CMs
If you want a stronger, but slower Frame to try for that mission try a Starmaster S10, E6, W11, Fuel1000, 5 cargo bays, Crew 4, CMs 50.
Or you could try a Mammoth which has 5 more agility that the Starmaster and your CM's would drop to 25 with 4 crew.

Up until I made Captain mil rank I used either a Mammoth or Starmaster to achieve that rank in SP mostly and also in the process I converted Olympus, Cerulean, Orion, Sirius, Rucker and Talison from Fair to Good status in SP - all with a Mammoth and/or Starmaster. Sometimes I used Wingmen to help speed things up some - especially up in Talison Conflict when working on my Mil rank.

@PaulB
Thank you for those tips :)

@iron
Yeah I upgraded the shield energy to x5 (the maximum I guess).

@Marvin
Yes, MP is more fun. I would be glad to do all the quest in MP, but... you know.. time zone... not much people playing :D haha
