SP v MP regarding war zone Contracts

Post by sythsillis »

Perhaps it's my fevered imagination, but I think there are contracts geared towards single player (i.e. 7 hostiles) as apposed to multiple way point contracts involving 25 to 35 hostiles which probably require a party of human players in MP. I have stayed away from those! I can do up to 3 way points in SP, but they are very tough in SP mode! Could someone shed some light on this? It could be helpful to new players entering a war zone for the first time.

Practice a lot is the key. Start in an easier WZ, Talison.
Once you get better in combat and tactics, multiple wp contracts won't be to hard for you.

I have made a 7 WP with 10 hostiles at each, most fighting in atmosphere. No bragging, just 100's of combat training hours. PvP is harder. Practice that and fighting AI will become easier. Good luck.

SeeJay sums it up perfectly but if you can find experienced layers on a MP server, group hunts against the Vonari are great fun. It's a matter of timing depending on where you are in real life! mid/late evening (GMT) is good - Europe hasn't quite gone to bed and USA is starting its evening free time :P And Talison WZ really is easier solo than the other WZ's.

In Talison Conflict the Carrier contract are easiest - no more than 4 enemy per waypoint often only 3 per.
The Command Station is a bit harder. ANd if you are brave enough to tackle contracts from the Player Built stations by yourself then good luck to you - they are the hardest and about 5 - 7 enemy per waypoint.

I'm not that good and I won't even touch them unless someone like Beta_ver is there, then he likes those and 2 or more of use can do ok. But I think many of those contracts involve a Vonari C. Beta_ver knows how to take those out fast. I don't know his method but the times I've taken out a C were not contracts and were lone C's that I ran across and I have my own method of dealing with them. I wish I knew Beta_ver's exact method. Iron Man tried showing me his (with me as a watching Gunner passenger) but I only got some of it and it's death if you touch one of the spikes.

I also won't do contracts in Moderate or Hostile systems cause they always have 7 to 10 enemy per waypoint. In SP I might could get by spending tons of money on Wingmen and get by - but in MP you can'y use AI Wingmen so you have to be either an expert or have some friends to help.
I'm decent but I'm no expert so I don't do them.

As a single P.I.C. (Pilot-in-Command) in SP-mode, you may order about the Navy AI pukes that 'show up' at the mission way-point. In fact, after taking the mission, you as primary pilot, can order the attack (or any other order you select) from the safety and comfort of the station or carrier you're launching from. Same order system works for 'human' pilots flying wing/co-ops in MP.

Do as PaulB suggests in the Talison Conflict Zone. Although, I've found what works for me is to alternate between station and carrier. Hang with your Navy AI 'wingmen'. This may sound silly, but it works @ 75-25 ratio to the positive. The AI pukes don't *always* go "Beer-30" at the launch of an adversarial missile. ;) And their attention span has gotten better over time. Watch your 'friendly fire'.

Thanks, guys. That gives me a much better perspective on the game. Not knowing any better, I started out doing a ton of missions in the Cerulean War Zone, often winding up taking out the capital ship on my own as the last man standing by crawling up the tail pipe and blasting away. Sometimes the magic worked and sometimes it didn't! I have moved everything over to Talison and it seems like a turkey shoot in comparison. :)
