Swapping Civilian to Military
Since I am now a Lieutenant, I would like to swap to a military ship, at least for a while. I would like to keep my civilian ship (a nicely outfitted Legacy with 3 loyal crew). Could I store the Legacy at a civilian station and then purchase say, a ferret, and then fly it to a carrier and swap it for a military frame?

go to shipyard in a station, then go to templates and save your current design as template. Then replace your ship with a mil frame at the carrier.
Your crew will stay on standby at rest until you buy a civ ship they can fit in again.
When you want to go back to your civ ship, just go to a station's shipyard and pick your template you previously saved. Note the station must have your frame type available.
You can also rent a hangar if you wish to physically store your ship , but then you'll get fees.
It's not really keeping the ships in themselves but rather saving the template when you come up with a config you like and buying it when the need for this or that particular config arises.
You can only buy military ships in carriers, while civ can only be purchased in stations, so if you want to store your civ ship in a hangar (only in stations), you'll have to buy another one such as talon to make the trip to the carrier.
Storing your ship doesn't really make sense imho, unless you're in an area where you know your frame type is not available, otherwise, just save the templates and sell/buy the ship you need when you need it.

Thanks, Beta_Ver. I'll do as you recommended. It makes a lot more sense now!

Though when you get rich you can store frames and swap as and when you want!

You don't need to buy another ship. From post: 178939, Topic: tid=12002, author=sythsillis wrote:Since I am now a Lieutenant, I would like to swap to a military ship, at least for a while. Store your Legacy in a hanger.
You will notice that you still have a Legacy (a 2nd one) to fly in.
When you store a ship (as opposed to swapping ships) EM makes you a Copy of the one you stored snce there is no such thing as NOT having a ship.
Now fly the copy to the Carrier and swap it/buy a Mil frame which will take the place of the Copy. I forget the exact process cause it's been so long since I did it.
But your original Legacy will still be back at the hanger and assuming there is a "trade in price" on the ship you are swapping for a Mil frame the Legacy copy is going to get you a better trade in than buying a cheap civvie frame to go swap. And besides you will still be doing the same thing just taking extra steps to go about it.

Storing ships and equipment is very useful when you want to do things like keep an Evoch-E handy in Vonarion (for hunting - of course
), but still have a civilian setup for exploring the surrounding sectors in search of new planets.

Thanks, guys. I followed your advice and can now swap my Legacy for a Wraith whenever I get the urge to kill something.
