'Do it yourself' trade route for new players.

Post by sythsillis »

For beginning miner/traders: after learning some of the basics in the Sapphire system and completing the first half of the I.M.G. quest, go to a system that has a fair reputation like Rucker, Olympus Prime, or Cerulean. The combat in these systems is moderate (mostly) and you can build up combat skills. Once you have about 2 or 3 Million credits (it shouldn't take long), buy a constructor unit and build a station. Make sure you type in a name for the station (a naming option will appear just above the BUILD text. Then build an ore refinery, and a constructor station nearby. Type convenient coordinates to the station and constructor unit. Now, go do some mining and fill up your cargo. The constructor unit will create
C3 repair systems out of 25 metal which are worth 250k to 270k! Platinum and anti matter will also get you neat stuff. Your new station will give you a 25% discount on fuel and missiles. Sell your cargo to another station in the system. You'll be rich in no time. It's not the quickest way to get rich but it will serve you well without getting killed every 5 minutes.

Those sustems are not rated Moderate - the are rated Fair.

Maybe I should have quoted Better:

The combat in these systems is moderate (mostly)
The combat in those ares is NOT moderate. Go to someplace like Rigel that is rated Moderate if you want to classify the fighting as moderate, not the ones you mentioned.

You can do the same thing in your very own uncharted system - a safe haven. Find one that has two widely separated planets;

short instructions: at the buy end: build a station (you get a free license) Build an energy, research, constructor station etc. At the sell end build a station ans cancel the licence (you don't want the 25% selling reduction)

more detailed instructions (with explanations) can be found in the Hints&Tips Guide (SeeJay's site). I created such a system several years ago and had it as the 'prize' at the end of a 'treasure hunt'.

I think the problem is that I used the term 'moderate' combat in the context of how a new player like myself would view it, and not as it is implemented in the game mechanics. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I should have phrased it differently. ;)
