Trouble continuing IMG mission (Solved)

I was in the first escort mission coming from Olympus Theta.
Jumped in and won the mission but neglected to save. I messed around and managed to get killed and when I reset the previous save I assumed I would get the waypoint again to redo but it was nowhere to be found.
To be honest I tried so many things in the process after that I do not remember the line of events leading up to now.

Any advice on relocating that escort mission?

Oh, and I met several of the guys out there in MP today.
It is a hoot but I have a long way to go to be able to keep up I think. I'll give myself a couple more days and try again now that I see some of the situations that come up with MP.

I'm not sure - what does the quest log say?
I would think that if you completed it you should not have to redo it even if you got killed doing something else.
I would think you would only have to go on to the next quest and the Quest status would tell you what you need to do next.
But I may be wrong since I never did the Quest in the 1st place.
I think I did the 1st 2 missions and then just quit and went to doing the normal things one does in other systems, aka regular contracts and stuff to increase my finances and rank.

Maybe someone else can tell you better.

Every IMG quest contract is listed with bold I.M.G. letters at the top. If you accepted and completed a contract which did not have the letterhead, then it wasn't a quest contract.

To determine which IMG quest contract is currently active, go to your Inventory Console (default F3) and click on the News Console option ... then the "View Last Quest Message" option at the bottom. Read the chat message to determine where to go and what to do.

I think that if you loose the mission's waypoint and there is indeed an active mission, the mission's active waypoint will appear on the nav map as a small green square (if you fire a fulcrum on a vonari cruiser for example, the game auto saves as soon as the torpedo fires, and if you get killed, you end up reviving in the middle of the mission, with no more missiles and facing a mother ship, then you need to get help and come back to finish the mission). Otherwise, like Marvin said, show last quest message.

I suggest forking the saves from time to time, in the esc menu, click select new profile and save, then choose either an empty slot or overwrite an existing profile. Your active save is then this new profile slot, and if something stupid happens (such as travelling 1000 sectors and realizing you're missing what you need to proceed just after saving at the end of the trip), then you can always revert to your previous profile. Forking the profile when you are asked to travel far is a good idea, and from time to time otherwise, might avoid starting with a talon again.

Okee I looked and the mission is there in my inventory screen,
For your next assignment we need you to defend one of our capital ships, so on and so on.. It doesn't have the capital IMG in that quest log thing but I know it did when I accepted it.
The mission is there so I assume I either did not ...
Blah..

I'm going to make a new profile and start over. With what I've learned so far it should be a snap to catch back up to where I am now. I'll fork the saves like Beta_ver said so I don't bork the saves next time lol.

I want to try to do the IMG with Seejays quest mod from the start anyway.

I'll leave this profile intact in case someone thinks of something to try but it is not really that important to me.

You might talk SeeJay into starting over with you ... if not from the very beginning, then from his "bypass the race" profile.

Question.
Can your Hitchhikers quest run along side Seejay's quest, Over the hill?
I'm thinking not but not positive on that.

No, the H2GE quest is intentionally meant to start from scratch ... as indicated in the first part of the story. If you make note of the information listed to the left when selecting a profile (in game but before choosing SP or MP), you'll see how far you've progressed in whatever quest is currently active. Both Over the Hill and H2GE start from "step" 1 and go on from there.

Another reason for a later playthrough then, Maybe from description it would be better thought of as an alternate playthrough.

As a suggestion, you might build up a ship prior to starting any quest ... and then save the profile to a couple extra slots. That way, you won't need to go hunting down those hard to find items more than once. And, yet, they will all have a Quest Progress of 1.

I'm already back to where I was before.
What took three days work off and on only took maybe 4 hours this time.
It is getting better.
