Well, I made it to Captain in TC after about 5 hours in MP.
Not all of it was combat - I did a little station building so i could try to get Exodus missiles rather easy when I wanted them (which I prefer). And I made a couple of trade runs of hitech equip (as best as possible with a Chimera) to get my finances back closer to 800 mil.
But (for me) it was a lot of combat and I'm getting better at completing TC Escort contracts.
The Carrier is the only station where I can (sometimes) find Exodus missiles - So I built 2 Trade stations in Talison where I can jump quickly to replentish. And if I get in a pinch during a contract and need misslies I just hop to the contract station and swap in my Excal pak until the contract is done.

Congrats on getting ranked-up.

Hint: Even if a carrier doesn't carry your preferred type of single-shot missile, there's a good chance they might have a 'reserve stash' set aside if you dock with at least 1 of that type of missile still on your hardpoint. ie: Adjust to only fire 7 out of 8 of those exodus and you might get them on the for-sale list next time you dock at the carrier. ;)

I've done that and try to do that - but the Carrier is the only place I've seen them - and they are expensive - like 40k+ whereas if I jump to my stations in Talison I can get them for about 16k.
I even built a Trade station in TC with the usual Ore (and also added a Research) stations but no luck.
It may be because of the way others have built the other trades stations around TC. I kinda figure it you over do the Ore, Research, and Construct stations they you shut out some of the items you might like to have and get a lot of Denators, proximity, Fulcrums and other stuff that's really not all that useful in quantity.

Oh yeah, I made the mistake of selling my Excal pak thinking I'd be able to pick up another most anywhere in TC. Big mistake. I had to go all the way to Atlas to find another one.
Usually I just stick it in a Hanger for safe keeping when I need the slot - but I didn't do it that time. I won't make the same mistake again. And so many people tell me they don't keep hangar space. Not this kid. I keep some important things in a hangar so I don't have to run all over creation just to find it when I need it.
I basically keep 2 hangars almost full visa vi 2 ships and hangar items. The ~$350,000 for them (at my finance level) doesn't break the bank.

@ PaulB - If you have a station built that supplies exodus missiles cheaper than the carrier, then good. :)
The hint I gave - as far as I know - works for any carrier anywhere. Take an exodus missile to the carrier located by the star to the east of Erato planet in Sapphire system. I'm willing to bet it works. ;)

 If I need to store my Excals, I right click and put them in an empty cargo space ... where I can keep an eye on the pack. ;)

I normally keep them in the single cargo bay of the Chimera - but on this occasion I needed the cargo bay for other purpose - and while I had it in the cargo bay there were Excals in most all the stations in TC - only when I sold it (temporarilly I thought) did all the Excals disappear from all the stations. Up until this occasion when I needed the cargo bay I would stick the Excal in a hangar and come back and get it when I was done with the cargo bay.
