Possible Spoiler Alert

Post by saiyuki »

I've only recently started mercenary and am primarily interested in mining and trading. I'm not really the combat type so am avoiding (as much as possible), fighting and racing. So.....

How large are the craft in relation to the station gates. Quite a few times i've been instructed to leave by a specific gate only to have another craft appear and enter at the same time as i'm just leaving (bug?). Try as i might to avoid the other ship, contact is always inevitable. The AI never attempts any collision avoidance.

Is it possible to select and mine for only one resource from asteroids?

At some of the higher-tech trade stations (hint: Sapphire is not one of them) you can purchase tractor beams which only mine a specific mineral ... usually gold or diamonds or platinum. The ships, though, can accommodate a maximum of five cargo bays, holding 25 units of one item per bay. And keep in mind that, if you come across a pod floating in space or half-buried on a planet or hidden inside an asteroid field or elsewhere ... you can't tractor the contents if you're using a single-item tractor beam.

P.S. Welcome aboard.

AI are a mix of 'Sunday Drivers' and the 'I'm all right Jack, so get out of my way' mentality. Just ignore them - you'll bump shields but not do any real damage. If you download the TechGuide from SeeJay's site there are some scale pictures and relative size info.

Welcome to the game and the forum!

Thanks for the replies.

Having purused through these forums and additional material (trying to avoid any spoilers), i cannot find specific ship frame costs. Are ship frames tied to the economy at the different locations they are to be found at, or are all ship frames throughout the game universe set at a static price.

I'm thinking as to how much capital i would need to obtain in the early game to fund my choice of gaming. Rather than keep progressing an early mining venture until i 'think i might' have enough credits, and then go in search of an appropriate civilian ship frame.

I really don't want to wander about the various systems looking for a specific ship frame, and possibly end up stuck in a system without the necessary funds.

I haven't yet looked at the in-game news system but wonder (as i type this), are civilian ship frame and components advertising included into the news system -obviously military ship frames should not be included due to their very nature of usage- or is this something that a possible future addition into the game might be possible.

When testing a new quest script, I usually start with the basic frame and a new profile. I've found that there are a number of upgrades you can make while still in Sapphire, using the credits you acquire while mining and/or completing contracts. Proper use of inertial and jump-gates can then get you to higher tech star system (check the quadrant map) where upgrades are affordable. Your purchases and sales can be reviewed to compare current prices with what you've paid previously.
