What server are all of you playing on?

It has not escaped me in my 3 days of playing that I have yet to even see anyone else (from here) log on while I'm playing (though there have been 2 or 3 unknown Pilots log on on the top server... the Aussie one).

I mean, I figured whichever one had the top listing would have the most people, but Space has been especially empty there, and I'm not entirely sure why.

Is there a secret server list or something that us newer Pilots are not privy to?

I just want to know other people are out there, that's all. I don't need them all clustered around whatever Planet that I happen to be flying near, but it would be nice to know I at least have the OPTION of running into someone... eventually. ^_^

I play on any. Normally I log on where I can find
other players. (Right click on server)

Honestly, I've only ever seen 2-3 servers on that screen.
The top one is always the Aussie one, but I can't believe that a game like this would only have 2-3 extant servers... it just doesn't make sense.

Servers are provided by players who a generous enough to let us use them. They're not directly dedicated by sw3dgames. - Hence the limited (or fluctuating) number. Hope that 'splains it.

No, I realize that, RC.

But you've got to realize that I'm coming from the Minecraft community where HUNDREDS of players host servers - and ones that are on all day, too.
The "on all day" part always astounds me (as a MC server owner as well), as I've got other things that require my computer's power at different times.

TL;DR - I guess I thought there were more fans of Space than 2-3 (lately, just 2). That's all.

Many players play Single Player only.

But I agree, it's a bit slow in MP at the moment.
You can't compare this game eith Minecraft tho
Millions play MC and this forum has 6000 something members.

A space sim is a bit more advanced than most games and
it's not something that attracts a casual gamer.
Several players, both here and in the Steam forum want the
game to be altered towards an arcade style.
That says it all.

There's also the fact that EM has an international community and one half of the world is asleep whilst the other half is up and about. There's also the retired (yee hah!!

:P:P) versus poor 'ole still working dudes' split. I'm just about ready for bed when the American team have finished supper and are raring to go!!

Add a (varying) number of servers to spread the load and you have to hunt around. You can easily see how many people are logged into a server.

try 9:00 / 10:00 pm GMT @ weekends

Unfortunately it's just a sad fact that there are seldom anyone on the servers.
I don't get on much due to having an old, insufficiently powerful laptop plus Verizon Mobile Wireless on which the cell tower is frequently saturated with users and thus lousy latency. However when I do check there is seldom anyone on and if I do check it's usually between 8PM CST USA and 1AM CST USA.
There have been a few times (last year) when I would log on and there would be 2 - 6 people on. Usually it was the CAV server (sad to say gone now) or sometimes G1 (with the very intermittant log on problems).
Some people who used to be on a good bit are too tied up these days I guess to be on much - aka Cindy and I guess others.

I had hoped to get a new Laptop this past Christmas but unexpected auto expenses and medical expenses wiped out a good bit of what I will call my "spare descretionary savings".
As far as Verizon Wireless - I'm just stuck with it.

I guess there may be some people like me who would like to be on more but can't or don't for whatever their individual reasons are - and/or check the servers and see noone on so don't log on themselves.

It's sad but that seems to be the situation - plus as has been said - a lot of the main players are in UK/Europe and others like me in USA - and some in Australia - so that makes it harder to get people together although I could get online more or less anytime (being disabled) but my main limitation as I said is unreliable (for gaming) Verison Mobile Wireless.

It's funny that you should say that, PaulB, as I am disabled as well (migraines).

I find the game relaxing, truth be told, and I like the fact that there are still things waiting to be discovered.
I'm like Truman on the boat to Fiji. ^_^

Anyway, I'm just happy whenever I see people on.
I'll continue getting on myself so that maybe when people see me on (like you've mentioned) they'll be more likely to join as well.
It's fun to chat while cruising the 'Verse.

IM will be on the G1 server today at 1pm west coast time. Normally it's noon ... but Europe hasn't switched to daylight savings yet.
