Arranging similar Items in the Same Cargo Bay?

Post by Lex Archer »

Okay, here's another one that might sound stupid to you Pilots that have played longer than one day...

Let's say, hypothetically, that someone was looking to carry ONE Cargo Bay's worth of Food Items for the every-now-and-again Distress Call missions. Let's further say that this Pilot (We'll call him "Lex".) was only able to get 21 Food in the Space Station, and then went down to the Planet, where they were only selling them in the quantity of 19 Food. >_<
...And then Hypothetical Lex was further perplexed that 4 of the 19 weren't just PUT IN WITH THE 21 (Because, hey, why be organized where cargo is concerned, right?) so that at least ONE Cargo Bay would be full (and he could perhaps, say, jettison the other 15).

I feel like there is possibly a way to consolidate these two cargo bays, but I have yet to stumble upon it in regular gameplay.

Any regular traders know how to handily accomplish this feat? ^_^

If I remember correctly, Right-Clicking the item you are buying should allow purchases - or sales - of 1 unit at a time, and they should properly stack to the already 'seeded' cargo bay.

Alt+Right-Clicking should allow you to stack items from cargo bay to cargo bay. ie; 20 units in bay #1 + 5 units in bay #2 = 25 units in bay #1 if you Alt+Right-Click bay #2

You'll need to be docked in a Trade Station or at a City to do it. ;)

Ah... The Alt key... my old nemesis.

I remember he was what was keeping me from Jumping and checking Nav systems before (as I hardly ever use F-Keys for anything)!

Thanks, Rubber Chicken.
(Incidentally, you should upgrade, Mr. Chicken... I hear the "Robot" version of you is far more entertaining.) ;)

Hi and welcome btw. (Forgot that in my previous reply in another thread!) ;)

You have a keyboard map layout image in your main game folder (If you haven't found it already).
The Alt Right-click thing isn't on it tho.:o

On my website there is a Guide that might be useful for you. Created by DaveK.

Thanks for the link to your site.
(And good gawd - you've either been playing for a long time or have a LOT of time on your hands or both!)

I'm assuming the guide you're referencing is the Tech one and not the guide to writing Fan Fics. X)

I'll have to load it another time, though, as I have a large torrent eating up all my pitiful internet connection's DL capabilities right now. ^_^

 The Alt key is used a lot in EM. Alt-F9 gets you a quick save ... and Alt-F2* gets you a quick max jump in the direction you're currently pointed.

* Unless you've done what most of us do: reassign the hyper-jump key to some key far, far away from the nav map and docking keys.

I probably won't start reassigning keys until I've been playing a week or so.

Kinda stretching these new leather shoes OUT first, if you know what I mean. ;)

 If it takes you a week or so to accidentally slam into an asteroid or planet by inadvertently pressing F2 ... either you're lucky or aren't playing enough.

...Or it could be because I keep pressing Alt + clicking on the Jump button (onscreen) to Jump. ;)

I mentioned before (in one of my two threads) that A) I couldn't Jump before discovering Alt was necessary, and B) I never use the F-Keys. Reason "B" is probably because on my wireless keyboard the F-Keys are like half-sized, so they're a pain in the butt to press.

 I moved the F2 option to the keypad Enter key (much bigger and further away). As you update your jumpdrive, you'll soon discover that pressing the Alt key in conjunction with the hyper-jump key can leave you disoriented ... if not totally lost. This is because, unlike jumping to a set waypoint, it sends your ship a maximum number of sectors in whatever direction you're pointing. And, if you're pointing up (and unfamiliar with operating in a 3D environment) ... well, that's when you get lost.

I think you just probably focus more on the fight mechanics of the game.

It would be like trying to master Kenjutsu and Iaido... while also memorizing the Periodic Table and several Shakespearean monologues.
They're different disciplines.

I just hope to have good enough skills to passively fend off warships while exploring further and further out.
One of these days, I hope to discover a planet and get it named after me (which I'm hoping is a thing... please say it's a thing). X)

I would, but I'm afraid that's the one SeeJay told me was a "spoiler". ;)
I want to discover every planet for myself.
Just knowing that I can possibly lay claim to one is enough for me! ^_^

The spreadsheet Marvin is talking about is just a "notebook".

You can also get help of my trilateration tool to find planets.
Not a spoiler, just some math to make it easier to pinpoint a planet.

Ah, Math... a nemesis even older than the Alt key! :P

Thanks, but I prefer the American "Oops! Look at this continent we happened to smack into!"-way of exploring.
(Math seems like cheating.)

Besides, like I told Emperor Nikolai: "I'm not that kind of robot."

Passively fend off hostile ships = RUN RUN RUN.

Seriously, explore in inertial mode going at a good clip (my speed is usually ~2700). It makes the hostiles a lot less worrisome. :)

I highly recommend using SeeJay's spreadsheet for recording the stuff you find. It's very user-friendly for reminding yourself of what you've discovered and where. Otherwise you could search for weeks to re-locate that system you found with the asteroids and high-tech economy.

If you are hell-bent on exploring entirely by chance, I wish you luck and remind you that lots and lots and LOTS of systems exist at SY values other than 0 (honestly, the closest system I've found was SY = 3). Look high and low, and be patient. There's a lot of empty sectors out there.

(I'm a bit biased in favor of the Planet Finder tool because I tried the triangulation by hand. Once. My days of higher math courses are too far in the past to get away with that junk.)
