Hello,

We have many threads on the game, but not so many on the players.

So I thought how about "I made this mistake?"

My two most common mistakes are;

Trading the wrong way, meaning buying high and selling low.

Flying in to asteroids, 99% my fault, once in a while I appear in the middle and splat.

What does everyone else do or not do?

It's been so long since I've made a mistake, that it's hard to recall.

Let's see. I once accidentally hit F2 when I was still in atmo. That did not end well.

 Most mistakes lessen with time. But I still find it difficult to keep track of which transport I'm supposed to be escorting if more than one is in the area.

I think most topics (including this one) have been covered over the years ... but nonetheless deserve to be given a new start ... a new thread. Why? Well, because older threads usually contain old information ... and who, among the new mercenaries, wants to start from page one and read old posts? It's one thing to read those old posts on a day-by-day basis, as they were originally being posted, but quite another to try and read them all at one go.

I haven't played for a long time and recently started playing a little bit, so it's hard to recall old mistakes.

What I did do the other day was taking a contract and jumped to it, finding out that the WP was in atmosphere ...... BOOOM! LOL!:D

 That usually happens in co-op missions when somebody else takes the contract ... and forgets to let you know that it's planetside. :o

I'm sorry to say that I can't blame anyone else for that one.

I've done the accidental F2 thing (thankfully nonlethal, and it's why my jump drive is now F12).

Biggest mistake I've made lately was not rearming with missiles between "hunt down the smuggler" contracts. When you're used to relying on those missiles, suddenly having to rely on your guns is a nasty surprise.

(Locating and installing an Excalibur pack has corrected the situation now.)

too many to list then all but my overall classics must include

spending ten minutes wriggling my way into a wreck in the cave in Sapphire to 'harvest' the container inside it and then finding I couldn't get out again no matter what I did

as a newbie trying to kill SeeJay in a station because I thought he was attacking me (just shields bumping). After 30 seconds of shooting him at point blank range, he destroyed me with one short burst. How embarrassing!

I often forgot to hit <enter> to start chat mode. As a result several times I fired a full Excalibur missile pack at people I was trying to chat with. I moved missile launch away from the <shift> key

:D

 Not realizing that, even if you assign the launch button to your joystick, the game will still launch missiles via the keyboard. (Oops!)

I moved it to another key - well out of the way since I used the stick to launch the missiles anyway :P

Yeah, for me it generally boils down to jumping when I don't mean to. The F1 through F4 keys were't very well thought out. Is the tilde key used by anything? Vice should permanently locate it to a less mistake provoking position.

 F1, F3 and F4 are fine. And Vice was nice enough to allow players to remap the F2 key (which I did after my first too-close encounter with a solid object ... moving "hyper-jump" to the NumPad Enter key). The tilde key is used ... pressing it in MP displays player information in the upper-right corner and your own ping in the upper-left.

:o As for mistakes, I still make them. Just this week, while doing a bit too much chatting while engaged in a contract, in haste I thought I had opened the chat window by pressing the Enter key ... and then started to type "just go to ..." whereby, as I pressed the "j" and not actually being in chat mode, I promptly jettisoned all my cargo. The area was already littered with cargo dropped by morted AI pilots ... consequently, before I could determine which pods contained my precious cargo, the server re-set itself. (Goodbye cloaking device!)

Hmmm....Let's see, I farted one time and tried to roll down the window. During a rapid decent down to a planet I didn't keep my pitch and melted. Jumped while on a planet. Tried to fly through our Gas Giants. Jumped out of a station into another ship. Bought a Military frame and lost my whole crew. Stored items on a planet and forgot where there were. Jumped too close to a planet. Challeneged Rubber Chicken to a fight. Got to close to a black whole and spent the whole day trying to find my location. Jumped into an asteriod. Forgot the moon had no atmo and flew right into it at mach one. Fired a fulcrum torpedo...again...and again.......and again.....

All lessons learned. I'd say I haven't died in ages but in the beginning, I died a ton.

Man I made several fatal mistakes today trying to farm hydrogen in Sapphire.
I finally got it right after about 6 tries lol.

 When you switch back to a civilian ship, check the trunk. Your crew should be in there, playing poker.

Firing an excal round on the last red that's already pretty badly damaged.
The first missile finishes it off and the remaining 7 lock onto the nearest (friendly) ship.
Sometimes I get the time to cycle the targets fast enough to confuse the missiles, and sometimes get an angry teammate.

Also forgot to put the excal back in the missile slots and going into combat after a money run where the excal was replaced by fulcrums to sell. An excal device in the cargo bay doesn't help in combat ...

 What I especially like about accidentally firing off an FT is the delay ... it usually gives you time enough to wonder what's going on. But not time enough to check your inventory and weapons hard points to figure it out ... and then execute a successful escape maneuver. At best, you opt for an "emergency jump" ... whereby you end up disoriented, temporarily lost in empty space.

Forgetting to re-up Exodus missiles at the carrier - jumping to a hot combat mission - got my only missile off and away - got maggie's drawers and the whiskey-tango-foxtrot award! Derp! :P
