GRRR: Trying to join 2 EM servers and two say "multi-player profiles only"

Hello! Greetings from USA - OR. As a not so spring chicken'ish I.T. guy and life long simulation fan, I really hate having to ask this... especially if its been answered. So please bare with me as I ask a few questions. I just bought EM a few months ago and haven't logged much time to date.


Why can I not join a couple of the servers listed?
(A couple say I have to used a multi-player profile only)

Where is the designation of what type of profile, MP or SP, located?

Can I use the same pilot and save game to do both SP and MP?

If yes, how do I do it and maintain the "multi-player'ness" to be able to join servers that say MP only and what are the caveats if any?

Is there a quick way to get a list of players for a listed server w/o actually joining it; such as a server list/status page perhaps?

In my opinion, it seems like it should be possible in case one find themselves without internet on a stormy winter night, and decides to play some gas generator powered EM, and wants to keep progressing with their primary pilot.

Really sorry if I am missing something obvious here... I would love to use the save game I have made a fair amount of progression and ship upgrades and money saved. I would hate to have to start over from square one. I am just trying to find a MP server that has some people, otherwise, what is the point of joining a server right?

Hi there and welcome to the game comunauty.

There are 2 server who only accept multiplayer profile. wich mean you need having only play online this profile. If you do use this profile in sp you couldn't log again on these 2 server.

You have 2 or more server who accept both as Galactica 1 or Cety Alpha V. Whatever you do in Sp are link in mp, Everything you do in mp are link into your sp also (exept a few things)

Pressing right cliq of the mousse on a server give you the statue of the server.

In your case them I will advice you to play on these both server for continue your progression if you don't want start a new profile.

Iron Man is correct. Right click on a listed server to see who is currently playing on that server. Keep in mind that servers are owned an operated by individuals who own the game ... not by Starwraith Inc. The two hosts who chose to run an MP-only server do so for reasons listed elsewhere. The other servers allow you to play both SP and MP with one profile.

There is no setting in EM that will allow you on those servers.
What you have to do is create a new pilot profile and DO NOT launch in SP mode after you create it. Use that profile ONLY for the MP servers.
Of course that means you have to start from scratch acquiring ranks, ships, and finances.

I'm not a persons who likes starting over from scratch (for a lot of reasons I won't go into), especially due to the time it takes in EM to amass rank & wealth - therefore I pretty much just won't use those servers. (but due to my limits with Verizon Mobile Wireless and underpowered Laptop I can't really do EM online, unfortunately).

I do not understand the reason of setting up a
server like this. Operators claim that it is to give
all players a fair start. That doesn't hold since it only
takes a few hours to unlock all you want anyway.

It's just annoying. I have profiles for them but I
rarely fly on those servers.

I like it. The only thing I'd like better is if they added "DiD" ... but then, I spend half my EM time flying new profiles (a drawback to testing quest mods).
