Delta Test -- Persistent MP Territories
Vice has consented to a test. He has modified Starbuck's Galactica 1 server so that territory percentages no longer degrade over time. They can still be reduced whenever a competing clan completes contracts ... but time, by itself, cannot reduce a clan's hard work to nothingness.
I emphasize: this is a test. If it manages to stimulate greater activity, then it might become permanent (which, for the cantankerous G1 server, could be a definite benefit: if you cannot for some reason log on after spending hours building up territory, you won't find your time and effort undone once the server is re-set and you do eventually log on).
Btw, this test is open to all mercenaries. The more, the merrier. And, if you find that, by the time you do log on, a whole lot of "IM" tags litter the Evoverse, have at it. Invade IM territory! Convert one or more to your own clan tag! Competition is the name of the game.
P.S. Direct all questions here, in this thread. IM will do its best to answer them all.

On Galactica...
I understand dropping the percentage per contract from 10, but to put it at 1? That's a heck of a drop.
Just a suggestion... since the major systems (Sapphire, Olympus, Talison, Sierra, etc) are probably the harder to change "control" of, they could move at a rate like 2% per, but the un-named systems could go for like 3% or 4%, since fewer contracts would invariably be done there?

Percent-per-contract is a global setting ... it can't be adjusted for individual star systems. The reason it was set back to 1% was to create an incentive for mercenaries to join together into clans. The more clan members doing the same contract in the same sector, the greater the percentage ... each member contributing one percent per contract.

Ah, that's too bad. Would be nice if it was able to be set per system.
Guess there won't be anything to stop IM from taking over the galaxy.

I'm a bit confused. . . .
In the initial post Marvin said 'territory percentages no longer degrade over time.'
I vote in favour of that! I can only manage log on (and not reliably) at weekends - especially Sunday; the rest of the week Galactica either doesn't appear in the list or is blocked. It makes clan chores even more onerous because the % had dropped so much. I like being on Galactica - I just leek the 'feel'. If I didn't have to spend a lot time doing clan chores I would happily do most of my research and experiments there - mapping the asteroid caves accurately being one example. I also have a list of weapons tests that I'd like to do.
Butt then Vhaerun said 'I understand dropping the percentage per contract from 10, but to put it at 1? That's a heck of a drop.'
I seem to have missed the 10% -> 1% announcement
Marvin replied 'The reason it was set back to 1% was to create an incentive for mercenaries to join together into clans. The more clan members doing the same contract in the same sector, the greater the percentage ... each member contributing one percent per contract.'
I thought that if several clan members were in the same sector as the contract, regardless of whether they are active or not, they all contribute to the % increase.
Oh, I do miss my brain!!

Hey Dave!
Starbuck set the % per contract to 10 so that we could quickly build up a couple territories in the boondocks (where it was less likely anyone would disturb the %) ... to test Vice's modification. So far, it looks like the mod works: whatever % you get, that's where it will stay unless some other clan moves in and does contracts under a different tag.
Now that the mod has been tested, Starbuck has (I think) reset the % per contract back to its default setting.
The only thing that continues to differ from default is the persistence of territories. They no longer decay when your clan is off line. Other than that, you still get 1% per contract per player in the sector (whether or not other players in the sector actually participate in completing the contract). That option was always available to the host ... and, if you twist Starbuck's arm enough, he might relent to changing it from 1% to something else. His call.

Oo like the UEF did? Maybe I'll do that, but I'll need more members firstFrom post: 174709, Topic: tid=11764, author=Marvin wrote:The simplest way to do that is to combine into one clan and use one tag.

It was off line earlier today (Pacific time) and I had to email Starbuck to have it reset. It then worked ... for how long, I don't know.
P.S. It is working now.

Instead of starting a new thread to ask one simple question...
when in MP, is there a way to see either the clan control percentage of the system you are in, or at least your clan's percentage?

If so, just click on the Quadrant Map option on the right side of the Navigation Console.

And in that view you can switch to just seeing your own clan if the number of clans working the server is too 'busy'

I know. The issue isn't differentiating the ones that I hold. The issue comes down to having the unnamed systems included. It's hard to tell which ones belong to which actual systems. There are also ones (like Lambda, for example) that have theirs off-center of where their locations are on the enlarged quadrant map. Since I was working on doing a territory instead of just going around and doing the major maps, they are all jumbled together. Since it notes the local trade stations in the news console, and that is server-specific, it might not be too difficult to put a field that says, "Local Influence: 10%" or whatever.

Some clans like to take over uncharted systems specifically because their ID is 'secret' to give them a base where it's unlikely they'll be attacked. From post: 174720, Topic: tid=11764, author=Vhaerun wrote:The issue comes down to having the unnamed systems included. Sneaky clans have counter-intelligence sections that uses sophisticated data and comms monitoring to identify the systems in question. [HB] do . . . both
