Toggle Inertial Forward/Reverse to Throttle

Post by JimmiG »

Hi. New user here some similar problems with my X52 Pro.

1. The throttle of my X52 Pro does not have a built-in deadzone in the middle. Maybe only the X52 (non-Pro) does? However setting the deadzone in-game does work so it's not really an issue.

2. My X52 Pro is "Device 2" in the game. I don't know what "Device 1" is, as I do not have any other input devices connected except the mouse and keyboard. I suspect it might be the MIDI IN port of my M-Audio sound card (games sometimes mistake MIDI ports for gaming devices).
From post: 169712, Topic: tid=8182, author=Vice wrote:To set it, click on the axis you want to map the control function to in the axis configuration menu, then click on 'inertial forward/reverse' to bind it to that axis channel. This option will also allow you to map inertial control on the same axis as IDS throttle control without a conflict, so the game will automatically toggle the control mode for you based on the IDS mode you are in.
-How to I assign the throttle to both IDS Throttle and Inertia Forward/Reverse at the same time? The GUI only allows me to assign one control per axis, if I click on the axis again and try to select another control, I get a message saying "Axis already bound". I need to clear the axis first.

I would really like to use the big comfortable X52 Pro throttle in both IDS and Inertial mode, rather than having to resort to a small slider for one mode.

Toggle Inertial Forward/Reverse to Throttle

Post by Vice »

Hello and welcome,

1 - My X52 seems to have a slight built-in deadzone for central throttle. Makes it easy for me to find and set throttle to 50% in most games. Perhaps the Pro didn't have that built-in.

2 - The game will read devices based on however Windows has them listed and sorted. So if Windows thinks some secondary device you have plugged in qualifies as a 'controller', then so will the game. You could probably get Windows to swap the device ID by setting your joystick as the preferred device in Windows. Then if that allows the controller to switch from ID 2 to 1, then the game will see it on ID channel 1 also.

For the last issue, that option is coming in the next update, which I expect to roll out within about 48 hours or less.

Thank you for the swift reply  Looking forward to the update. In the meantime, there's plenty to learn and discover in the game for a new player :)

Setting the X52 as the preferred device seems to work and it's now Device 1 in the game. I followed the instructions under "Method 3" here:
http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/831361

Not a huge issue, but before I found the arrow icon to select Device 2 in the game, it left me scratching my head as to why the joystick didn't work at all.
