Inertia - Nose Centre Key?

Post by SleepySid »

Hi I'm just getting into the game and love the inertia mechanics. Was wondering if there is a keyboard shortcut to automatically point the nose of the ship to the inertia direction?

Hi and welcome to the game. :)

If you looking for activate the inertial mod the touch is "space"
Otherwhise you can use your mousse or truster to change the direction of the ship.
Does that answered you question? :)

I don't think that's what he wants.
I think he wants a Key to press that will automatically turn the ship and center it on the direction of inertial travel.

I often wish I had a key that would do the opposite (without having to use IDS mode) - aka - Auto center the Direction of travel to the way the ship is pointing rather than having to try and do it with Stick #2 (Strafe) on my gamepad.
When I'm in combat I don't have enough fingers to turn the ship and change the strafe direction and fire guns at the same time.

That's pretty much why the ships are outfitted with IDS. Changing direction of flight requires some kind of thrust against inertia.

Yes, but an Auto Strafe Center would (I think) have less adverse affects on your speed (and heat signature) than switching to IDS and/or Afterburning although it would be slower - but I wouldn't care about it being slower in some cases. If you are moving fast switching to IDS and/or afterburning can still be slow.

One case where a stick works better - I've got IDS toggle on the pinkie switch and afterburner on the top end of the throttle range so both are hands on all though combat. Could you set up something similar on your gamepad?

:)

 In the above situation, a joystick also works better even if you run out of buttons. Of all the keys on a keyboard, the space bar is the one I'm least likely to miss.

I do have Inertial on/off and Afterburn configured as buttons on my gamepad. :)
