This game lost me at Sierra (Rant)

Post by Infinity+1 »

I am super impressed by this game, the single developer, and the community. I was really enjoying playing UNTIL the I.M.G missions took me to Sierra. Then the immersion and the fun dissolved.

I can't take on 20 enemies. I simply don't have the skill yet. But, beyond that... WHY do I have 20 enemies on my tail? Why does everyone hate me? I just got here!

So, to make the Navy like me, I take a Navy mission. On the way there...Navy starts attacking me! (as well as energy, rebels, ect...) This makes no sense. If I am contracted to the Navy, I should be at least be yellow (temporarily) in their eyes.

As I scan the fleet of ships tailing me, I see Navy, Energy, Rebels. Why aren't they attacking each other? My mission is Navy vs Rebels, so they are enemies. But the whole universe only reacts to MY reputations with the groups. Why? I'm not that important. The groups should have Reps with each other as well and fight accordingly.

Ok, rant over. Still a very impressive game.

Hello and welcome.

In some places, Sierra being one of them, just about everyone will be your enemy and will attack you. The Navy marked ships aren't going to play nice with you just because you have a contract. You struck a deal with a mission vendor at a starbase, they aren't part of your deal and they'll gladly take you out of their space. Your track record with them is zero and you're an outsider from hostile space, so that's exactly how you will be treated by them. It will take a lot of time and effort to change your reputation and status you bring in with you to Sierra. But the IMG missions won't require you to do that, you just have to survive and complete the objective required in one of the most difficult sections of the game's universe.

Granted, such conditions add the highest level of difficulty and challenge found in the game. So until you do feel ready to take on the 20 or so hostiles and have the ship and equipment needed to destroy that many, you may want to step away from IMG missions for a while and focus on building your combat skillset and ship capabilities for a while in more manageable systems. Then engage back into IMG missions once you think you're ready.

You can also optionally recruit other real-world players to join you on your mission and help you in multiplayer.

Thank you Vice. It's an honor getting a response from you.

Just out of curiosity, do two reds ever attack each other because they hate the other more than me? That would make sense to me.

 Ratz. I was going to direct you to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Evoverse for a discussion on factions and reputation ... but Vice just delivered one of the best explanations to date ... and in far fewer words. As for Reds fighting each other, if you dock at one of the stations* in Sierra, then press the V key a couple times, you can cycle through all the ships within sensor range ... and most of the ships like to hang around the trade stations. Eventually, you should spot a couple Reds going at it. And, about the Quest, if you're intent on completing it ASAP, try logging on to one of the servers and asking for help (press the Enter key to open a chat window).

* You'll need to pay a docking fee ... but, under the circumstance, it'll be worth the price.

Thank you Marvin. I'll search for that guide. You might as well post that link anyway, for the sake of any future rookies stumbling across this thread.

Edit: Nevermind, here it is
