best place to buy materials for making weapons? *WARNING SPOILERS

Post by Stateofpsychosis »

Hi there

I'm just looking for an easy way to buy materials for weapons research since I have tons of money in evochron due to good old planet pearl.

(I'd rather buy then mine for them)

Where is a good base to buy stuff like this?

coordinates would be handy if you got them as well :)

Or... if you have a mining beam, a nebula, asteroid field, a constructor station and a trade station nearby, you can mine all you need and convert it into the various parts.

Hydrogen (from nebula) > Fusion units
+Metal > Machinery parts
+Platinum > Electrical units
+ One bay of plain Metal

= Custom Guns.

Yep, Sapphire is, without doubt, the best location to acquire the basic commodities for weapons lab crafting. You'll have to station-hop to get the 'stuff', as available balances and types of all materials vary with the cycle and station location. Stations that are near (orbiting?) planets may be your best bet, especially the Energy, Industrial, and Technology-focused planets. Although, checking in with a General-focused planet/station may yield some of the materials as well. (Sorta like an Ace Hardware store). And, sometimes the stations near Agriculture and Biological-focused planets will have the necessary items in inventory. Unfortunately, there's no real one-stop shopping, but parking in Sapphire is free. ;) :P

Good luck with your research!:cool:

I've just finished a tour of the core and listed all the commodities you can buy at each system. I've colour coded the systems (six of them) that are good for WL testing (ie all the raw materials: machinery - fusion units - electricals - metals are available easily).

It also highlights the systems (ten of them) where you can get the the basics for doing the distress call rescue missions (metals - medicals - water - oxygen - food) since you really need to be stocked up beforehand so you don't waste time gathering them.

It's going to be added to the next edition of the Hints&Tips Guide (released soon) but if you want an early copy, U2U me with your email address and I'll send you the table :)

EDIT: This should work!!

so much spoil...

guys

if newbies come on forum and know everything in about 2 hours reading and downloading... dunno but... then you drastically cut the game play time...

why not just drop some informations, some clues, some ideas...

that's why i dont want link to much the forum threads from my blog, sometimes it give to much informations... like the evometric map where you can find in 5mn what is where and how to go and then what ? After 2 days you'll have nothing to explore and nowhere to go because "ho, someone already been there why bother myself ?!"

i know it comes from good intentions, but hell's roads are paved of good intentions... :)

my 2 cents, no hard feelings

we all play games differently

I don't have a lot of time to play since I technically have 3 jobs so I don't mind getting a few spoilers
just stuff where I can skip over things that take too much time like mining and whatnot ;)

What Major trying to say and why i'm agree with him is , we don't mind you optain spoiler but some new player if they read this line they could obtain mass spoiler. Free to use u2u for example or play in multiplayer ask directly to other players :)
This is my opinion.

None taken! :P

I agree that only a fool (or someone under the evil influence of a Voanri Mind Control thingy) would want all the answers handed on a plate - (just download the answers for free and don't clog your machine up by installing the game! :D) I still haven't landed on Earth in one piece (and I have no intention of doing it by a mod or cheat or by being told how) - where would the satisfaction be of looking at the defence ring from below if I'd just been someone's puppet?

I always make sure that info is offered and not just shown or blabbed. I also only offer when I feel the person might actually want the info or have asked a question. I also offer to offer just hints rather than answers - even when they ask for an answer, just in case they really mean that a hint would do! But there is so much to discover in the game that some players would like an easy route to some parts of it.

In relation to my post above with the file link, initially I was only going to send the info out - or a limited set of it - after getting a U2U but an updated version of the H&TG is almost ready to publish so it seemed sensible to offer the info as a download here and now.

No-one has to take the info and read it if they don't want to. For example picommander is adamant that he doesn't want answers given to him but in one part of his exploration he just wanted hints as to whether he was wasting his time - no point in spending hours and hours looking for something that doesn't exist! We made sure between us that he got the hints he wanted without any spoiler elements, always erring on the side of caution.

I don't see any harm in giving info to people who want it - don't want it? - don't ask for it or don't download it and don't read it :P

The H&TG is full of useful hints, useful tips, advice and discussions from lots of experienced (and less experienced) players and (yep :D) lots of spoilers - but the latter are well signposted so you can avoid them. :)

just gotta tag spoilers so people have warning

I'm actually the type of person that doesn't read walkthroughs on games like Myst or Riven

but when it comes to annoying stuff like level grinding, mining, farming money, etc
I don't have any time for that
I only get a few hours to play this a week and want to make them count.
I want to have fun in those few hours not feel like I'm working ;)

anyways, yea I've been looking at that online guide with the map and everything. That's going to save me some time looking for jump gates to places like andromeda or sol
much appreciated ;)

Hi,
I've made custom cannon & beam myself, BUT, you will NOT be able to make a "high kill" / "low energy" Cannon or Beam - it's just not possible.
That said - I think you CAN make versions better than the default game weapons available.

This is my opinion (so far anyway - I'm still experimenting at times) if you want to get a "modest energy/modest power" Beam.
Experiment with the Metal-Vapor & Coil-Laser.
You have to really tweak the Emitter Output and Capacitor Reserve. Set the Heat Sink to Max.
This is an example of what you will find for all types:
If you Tweak the E.O. & C.R. for a specific Yield (example 42Y) using higher E.O. than C.R. then the "next lower Type beam" will give you a bit lower Energy use for the Same Amount of Yield.

But at some point - to get a Higher Yield you MUST goto the next higher Beam type. I've forgotten my last experiment but just for example:
Say you can get a Metal-Vapor as follows:
42Y with the E.O./C.R. Tweaking and the lowest possible Energy use - Then if you need 43+Y you must go to the Coil-Laser.
But that said - if you go to the Coil-Laser to get 42Y then it will use a bit more Energy than the Metal Vapor did.
This scenario (for given Yields) applies for each Beam Type.
So DON"T make a 45Y Fusion beam if you can make a 45Y Coil-Laser or Metal-Vapor because you will be using MORE energy than the lower Types of Beams.

The same thing applies to Cannon Types.
But for my Cannon I insisted on a higher Yield so I chose the Fusion Cannon and I tweaked it so I got a Yield of 77Y with Range=780 and Refire of 19C - that beats any of the Default game Cannons I've seen by quite a bit.

So far I've chosen a Coil-Laser and have 2 (1 in storage).
#1:
47Y 11C
#2:
55Y 11C

Naturally the 55Y won't fire as long as the 47Y by something like 3-6 sec. when firing both cannon & beam.

Individually each will fire a long time.

If you MUST have a LONG firing combo, you are going to have to sacrifice Yield (thus energy usage) on one or both weapons.
I would sacrifice on the Beam before I would on the Cannon.
You CAN kill with just a Cannon moderately well without firing the Beam - but the inverse is NOT true.
Don't take that as me saying the Beam is not important - it IS - but as much as I hate it - I have 3 controller buttons assigned - 1 to Cannon only - 1 to Beam only - and 1 to both Guns.
I can't tolerate pressing a key or button to Cycle Guns - there's too much else to think about/control during combat and it's SO much quicker to release the Beam button (left hand) while continuing to fire Cannon (right hand) or vice versa - while still manipulating the Axis controls with my thumbs.

Even with the higher Yield Guns I made it's about impossible to kill a Red firing both Guns before energy runs out - about 15+ sec. or so - (unless maybe I could get most/all my hits on him - which is not easy).

The Technical Manual was interesting on the subject of the Weapon Lab but in the end didn't help me a great deal - Tweaking and Experimenting is your best method.
A good test of your Guns is blowing up some asteroids before taking them into Combat. And save your Weapon Lab Templates.

Weapon Lab Missiles - I don't know - they are all so confusing and no real comparison. You can't Mouse-over missiles to see the Yields like you can Beams & Cannons to compare to the ones you've made - and making Missiles is too expensive and time consuming for something you can only fire one time each.

Paul

okay that's good to know
I was going to experiment with the fusion laser too so thanks for letting me know in advanced to do the coil laser instead

I think I need a better joystick cause I'm out of buttons to assign for the individual weapon triggers :p
plus this damn thing pulls to the left

it sounds like you need to do one or both of two things.
(1) go to Control Panel - Game Controllers - (your controller) - Settings and redo the Calibration (but not while EM is running).
(2) in EM - Options - try increasing the Deadzone.
For my Xbox 360 gamepad I have to set deadzone to 2 because it has no deadzone of it's own apparently and the analog sticks as SO sloppy). My Logitech F310 on the other hand has built in deadzones so I can set EM deadzone to 1 (or possibly even Zero - but I don't) - and the Logitech Analog sticks are far less sloppy and calibrate better than the Xbox 360.

nah the whole joystick is actually broken. it works the best in evochron because of those deadzone settings.

in xplane it's absolutely brutal so i need to replace this one either way
I've had it since the early 2000's or 90's i think so i can't complain

plus it just doesn't have enough buttons on it :P

I'm going to get one that you can twist left and right as well for strafing or whatever you want to set it to
i only have 3 axis's right now not enough
