Hi everyone! (starting reputation by quadrant)

Post by Kkabb »

I've been playing this game for only a little bit and so far I've got a little over 800 kills as of this post. I used to get creamed by waves of 10+ until I realized that if I punch it sideways with afterburners in inertial, carefully inching my way with ids afterburner forward I could force the AI to bunch up in the center like a school of fish and then it's all about picking off the ones on the edges till they're all gone. Figuring that out was really fun!

I play with a playstation controller mapped with xpadder. I spent half the time tweeking the controller map. The eureka moment was when I remembered that I could map key combinations. The left stick on the playstation controller is afterburner in all four directions. That made a HUGE difference to how I fly. Now I'm a full afterburner pilot. The change in playstyle made it so I could lower my engines to 1 and raise my wings to 13, stock up on cargo space, and get a nice tank of fuel. I'm liking my new setup, the legacy kind of looks like the serenity.

I really like what you guys have done with this forum, the main reason I haven't first posted till now is because every question I had was answered somewhere... except maybe one. The question of what every quadrant's starting reputation is. It was there but it was too hard to find. Found my answer In the hitchhiker's guide to the evoverse by cross referencing two different quadrant charts. I'm going to go ahead and post what I wrote down here so new people like me can find it.

Hostile - Sierra, Aries, Thuban, Pearl, Vonari, Merak, Capella, Iota

Moderate - Fauston, Cygnus, Onyx, Emerald, Rigel, Vega, Aquilla, Deneb

Fair - Lambda, Olympus, Talison, Pices, Cerulean, Virgo, Rucker, Alpha Centauri, Orion, Sirius, Iota

Good - Sapphire, Sol, Atlas

That's all I can contribute for now, I'm still new to this community. Some people online were kind enough to share their teamspeak info with me. I hope to see you guys. I'll be around. Hopefully my 3D glasses come in the mail soon, I want to see this game with some depth.

Hi and welcome to the game/community.

Good info right there for new pilots.

I shoot my way through space so all systems
are probably hostile to me LOL.

See you out there.

This is probably going to sound stupid but I remembered something I read in a book that really helped me, "The enemy's gate is down". The moment I started picturing my ship as plummeting instead of going forward I realized that I could keep my enemy on the edges of my screen toward the direction i'm punching it to move closer and on the other edge of the screen to move away (if that makes any sense). After some practice, I'm happy to say that I no longer need IDS to inch forward against waves of AI.

Hi Kkabb and welcome aboard! I'm one of the newer players (mostly SP) but I think I already heard your name mentioned in Rooster's flight log.

Just alow me one question please. From reading your post it seems you talk about using afterburner on lateral thruster e.g.:
From post: 169628, Topic: tid=11380, author=Kkabb wrote:... if I punch it sideways with afterburners in inertial...

or

The left stick on the playstation controller is afterburner in all four directions. That made a HUGE difference to how I fly. Now I'm a full afterburner pilot...
If it is what it sounds like it is (at least to me) I'd say it's impossible. Afterburner AFAIK only works with forward and backward thruster, but not with lateral. You can use afterburner while strafing of course, but the strafing will always be in normal velocity, if you meant that. Otherwise someone prove me wrong and show me how it works (preferably w/o a playstation controller). :)

I don't think afterburner can be used other than
forward/reverse. Might be inertial thrusters he is refering to.

Haven't tried that option myself so I don't know for sure.
Will look into it and see if it works and if I
can set it up on my stick. Really cool if it works.

After so long time in this game and I still might
learn new stuff frim new players. Love it!

It either proves that I'm "slow" (read stupid) or that
this game is just more amazing than I already
think it is! ;-)

Logged on to see if I could help some new guy's, including Kkabb.

Kkabb was guiding a new pilot like he has played this game for years. Great to follow the chat.

Excellent work Kkabb. Keep it up! (Your putting me out of business here LOL!)

Somebody online wanted to see my Xpadder profile. This is it. F8 is my TS push to talk key. Everything else is standard. I don't use CMs right now on my civ ship but I mapped it anyway for when I make a military profile, if I ever do, I like my Legacy too much. I used to have F5 and F6 on the right triggers but after some tinkering in the weapons lab, now I have manageable energy consumption from both weapons at the same time.

I have crappy internet so it'll take a while to upload the video I made of me orbiting downward toward my enemies and picking them off one by one. I'll add it in a few minutes.

EDIT: Here's the video. I'm so sorry about the quality, my upload speed is very bad so I had to compress it in vlc.

EDIT 2: Pressing down on TAB+D this time.

Hi Kkabb,
welcome in the evoverse :)
thanks for sharing your tips and informations

i looked at the video, interesting, while looking my hand move alone on mouse and keyboard for move the spaceship :)

what i see is that you seems turning around the enemy group while always keeping safe distance/speed for avoid direct gun fire and have time to shot down the missiles

Both most excellent vids, Kkabb! No problem following along, and the 'presentation' thru vimeo is okay, at least thru my system resources. Great stuff! :):cool:
