Non-dedicated Server

There are good chances that in about a month my brother steps in (after massive advertising from my side he's hot now :D).
Since he's not living in the same house I had the idea to set up a private server just for us 2 for some training sessions and to check out some basic MP and server functions/possibilities. A first test with running both server and client on the same machine was very promising. Both connecting and playing worked flawlessly (just forgot how to check ping and fps, though ping would of course only make sense for my brother). I was surprised that it seems to work at all, cause the server documentation strongly recommends a dedicated server. But that was just with one player, myself. Has anyone done this before?

I have a quad-core i5-2500 (3,3 Ghz) , 8 GB Ram, GeForce GTX 760 (running in silent mode!) and a fast Samsung 264 GB SSD.

it can be done but there's no need to use a dedicated server for that purpose.

I would suggest useing the in game hosting function and just give him your ip
both of you will get better performance that way
