Star Corona Refueling

Post by PaulB »

Can someone explain how Refueling using the tractor beam on a Star Corona works?

I haven't been able to figure it out unless you have to get much closer and the 1st occurrances of the Star's gravity field.
if so, can you Jump out of a star's Gravity field? It's not like it's a planet's atmosphere.

You need to install a fuel converter to make it work.

This is from the official game site:
"A fuel converter is a remarkable piece of equipment that can transform high
energy photon particles into fuel. It connects to the tractor beam system
and fuel tank to directly deposit the converted fuel into the tank."

Then you need to fly close enough so you can beam aboard those particles.

 You can get close enough to a star to refuel ... as long as you have the equipment SeeJay talked about. The safest method is to activate the beam (Alt B) prior to entering the corona and then advance (slowly) until your fuel gauge begins to increase. You'll probably need to continually use throttle at that point to keep from being pulled into the star's lethal range.

Yes, you can warp out of a star's gravity well. It's only some of the high-energy nebulae that prohibit warp jumps and/or secondary weapons employment. These types of nebulae are scattered throughout the known and unknown regions of the Evo-verse. Larger fuel pods will be a benefit to your photon/fuel slurping activities as well. :)

Now all we need is an onboard machine to make countermeasures.

With a fuel converter, level 3 repair system, and Excals, and nearby stars or nebulae, you could survive in space indefinitely, without having to dock at a station. Useful to know if, for instance, you get trapped in Vonari space for extended periods.

You could always build a base, though it would be surrounded by foes in no time.

 Except in Andromeda. Luckily, you can still deploy a refueling station, even there.

If you are getting attacked you can also deploy a shield to protect you in the refuelling station though positioning is important! Plus a good supply of good coffee - it takes ages! :P

Move outside the core and finding a star is very very (repeat many times) difficult. Same when flying between gated systems inside the core (for example heading for Sol) unless you find or know of uncharted systems. Deploy constructors' range limit hasn't been reached yet (Build Constructor keels over at around 20K sectors) :D

In deep space, 'food' for your ship is covered and there are lots of Gorfburger retail outlets (usually modified Talons) to refuel the body, though their coffee takes a bit of getting used to! :D Within the core though, Gorfburger joints are harder to find, but SAR missions are easier to request.

:)

You can also get Lee's Squid Tacos at any participating station :-P

I have a hotkey dedicated to deploying a shield array. It has saved my bacon (literally) a few times.

Yes, I buy my bacon from Alpha Centari. They have a thing with bacon there. I can't explain.

Sure, I've had a Fuel Converter from the 1st time I got out of the Training Guide and into a Station.

Ok, Thanks. I guess I haven't gone far enough into the Gravity field the couple times I've tried.

if you mean a larger Fuel tank I can't go above #2 (800) because I've settled on the best Wings/Shield 10/Engine I can get on the Mammoth and Starmaster using a 800(whatever-it-measures) tank.
800 is pretty much ok. It gets me around to Pearl, etc. I'm not sure if I could get there, do the runs, and return without refueling and I don't plan to test it - lol. But I generally don't refuel (at a station) in the hostile areas until I'm down around 600+ (to give them as little money as possible even though I have a license at Port Oasis).
Last trip I took my Deploy Constructor with me - but I'd just as soon not now that I can get the Corona thing to work - after all the Deploy refueling cost a bundle also.
In Sapphine I just hop in a Nebula and refuel most of the time cause I never figured out the Corona.
