EvoMetrics questions

Post by PaulB »

I'm not sure if there is a problem or not.

Does EvoMetrics have to be online to operate? I couldn't get it to work until I got online.
Even so - when I click Settings it shows for the file path:
C:GAMESEvoMetricsResources

The real path it's installed in is C:\\GAMES\\EvoMetricsResources
If I try to change it - it reverts back to C:GAMESEvoMetricsResources
Is that normal?

EvoMetrics questions

Post by SeeJay »

Hi Paul.

Evometrics connects to my online DB, so yes. I update that continuously so with this setup, all players get the newest data all the time.

The settings must point to your game folder to make the Tracker (GPS) to work. (Downloaded version only, the online website map does not have that feature)
Default game folder is: C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\savedata.txt

Even if you install the game in a different folder, that folder is created by the game itself. (I noticed when I installed tha game on my D-drive)

Hope this answers your questions..

Well not quite.
Why, when I click Settings does it show
C:GAMESEvoMetricsResources
with no \\ after C: or after Games??
Shouldn't it show C:\\GAMES\\EvoMetricsResources ???

Or are you telling me that it should say:
C:\\GAMES\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary ????
and NOT C:GAMESEvoMetricsResources nor C:\\GAMES\\EvoMetricsResources ????

Even if I manually change it from C:GAMESEvoMetricsResources to C:\\GAMES\\EvoMetricsResources it reverts back to C:GAMESEvoMetricsResources

The EvoMetrics Shortcut in Start/Programs/EvoMetrics shows for the Start in
C:\\Games\\EvoMetrics\\
What seems a bit odd is the Target shows just:
EvoMetrics but it is greyed out.

I checked the Evochron Mercenary start shortcut and this is what it has in it's fields for Target and Start in:
C:\\GAMES\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary\\EvochronMercenary.exe
C:\\games\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary

Now I did do this: When I initially installed the game it put the pilot data and all in C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary
and the game data in C:\\GAMES\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary
Well I read you could change that by putting a textfile in
C:\\GAMES\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary
called savedir.txt which I did and it contains C:\\games\\
and after confirming the game still worked (after renaming the folder in C:\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary to C:\\Xsw3dg\\EvochronMercenary) I deleted the C:\\Xsw3dg\\EvochronMercenary.

I have never heard of that problem before.
It doesn't matter where you install the evometrics tho.

Are you playing through Steam?
If so, I have no idea of how steam handles the game install or how the paths for the game folders looks.
All I can say is that when you start the Evometrics the path in the setting should point to your game folder that holds all the game profiles etc.
That's where the savedata.txt file should be.

Maybe others that has heard of this problem could give you a better answer.

No I'm not through Steam.
I went and changed the Settings to be
C:\\GAMES\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary
I hope I did right - only now when I click settings - nothing happens - I don't get the popup that shows the file Path and Timing.

Hmm.

That is a problem that has happened before. MapMan explained to me where you can find that file and edit it manually to correct any mistakes way back.
I can't for my life remember what he said or find his reply but I will look into it.

In the mean time do a search on your system for "C:\\GAMES\\sw3dg\\EvochronMercenary" and include "in files" or something like that.
The search should look for that phrase included in files. That might pinpoint the location of it so you can edit it manually.
I'll try to get MapMan on the horn in the mean time.

Sorry for the problems but we will solve them eventually.

I found it:
It's in: C:\\Documents and Settings\\Owner\\Application Data\\Titanium\\appdata\\se.starwraith.EvoMetrics

and the file is: mercenary.settings

It has the correct entry I put in for the game folder now.
and if I rename the file I can click Settings and it will open with a path default of C:\\Program Files\\EvochronMercenary.

But if I put it back to the correct name: mercenary.settings
it will no longer open when I click Settings. Don't know why.
Don't much care. It's not useful to me since I can't run it AND the game at the same time on the Laptop with just the one display.

But I can still open the program as stand alone and look up stuff. (But if you do find out why Settings won't open now let me know.)

Thanks,
Paul

 EM is one of the few games I've played where you can either Alt-Tab or WinKey-D without borking the game. I use it all the time to view things like:

I should be able to when I get my 4GB ram upgrade for my Laptop.
Right now it's only got 2Gb (2x1gb) and at best 1.6gb free but usually over 1.4Gb. So it's pushing the limits and I've had a crash a couple of times in SP - possibly at some point after I had Ctrl- Esc'ed back into Windows to do something or it could have just been it didn't like me Jumping to an existing prior jump point before remember to go in Nav Map to select where I MEANT to jump to - and then doing just that - back to back.

Anyway I hope the Crucial 4Gb (2x2gb) upgrade will hwlp performance some even if it doesn't do a lot for Frame Rate - but maybe it will help that a tad too.
That bad part is the fx350m only had 256Mb dedicated and another 256Mb shared ram which usually means it's of no use at all to Games.

Depending on your OS, you might need to use the 4G Patch after you upgrade your memory.

XP Pro and the Dell M65 support up to 4GB - of course only about 3.5Gb or so will actually be available but that's enough.
