Now, about this Earth thing...

Post by OrkoMML »

I am sorry if my first post is about a subject so many people already talk, but I have a problem:

I was looking for a good open-sandbox (is that what it's called?) space simulation to illustrate a story I'm writing. I was planning on using small movies or photos.

However... As from I read in the forums, Earth is not supposed to be landed, and some people found out how to cheat the ring and land. Some of you might think of this as cheat the cheat, but I kinda spent about R$40,00 (that's brazilian coin, about 20 USD, I believe) on a simulator to do the movies but the very first movie of the hero leaving Earth cannot be made by myself.

So I ask, is there a way to cheat (it doesn't have to be "clean", it can be done editing the files - after all, it's not meant to be played that way, it's just for the filming) the ring? If that secret is too well guarded, then would, someone who already knows please do the shots I'd require and send them to me? (The story won't be published anytime soon, but if it ever does, I'll sure to credit whoever helped me).

I have also some other questions: I haven't found out much information about that but is it possible to have other cockpit views? And is it possible to use different textures for planets?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for any english mistakes :P

PS.: As not to spoil the fun for other players, would please the answer be sent either via PM or to my email orkoMML(a)hotmail.com? (If there is any brazilian out there; MML é "Faça Me Rir" :D)

Well, there's only been a very few fortunate pilots to make Earth landing. And they're not talking. As for cheats, most of them have been eliminated over the course of repeated game software upgrades. To my knowledge/experience, the game's developer keeps a weather eye out for cheats and/or unfair advantages and exploits. Fair and balanced for all, is the name of the game.

There are a few cockpit/HUD mods out there, that are compatible with the EM 2.XX software. Pilot SeeJay has some on his site, in the mods downloads area. Currently, planetary textures are hard-wired in the game software.

Fair enough. Could those pilots please, then, film some shots for me then?
Otherwise I'll have to keep looking for another space-sim (that either allows me to place Earth texture on a planet and take-off, or already has it so), so if you have any suggestions...

 I have a suggestion. Find one of the many Earth-like planets and use it for the take-off. Then film the ship leaving the "real" Earth from the point where you won't be blown up. Splice the two scenes together and nobody will know the difference. Trust me. Hollywood does it all the time.

As one of the view who landed on earth I have 2 pictures I can send you. Other than that filming a landing or departure with the ring showing is complicated and will take a lot of time that I do not have......the 2 pictures are the same that I posted on the forum about Earth Landing as proof!......;)

Thanks. I'll try what Marvin suggested. About the cockpit view though, is it possible to have other internal views? Do they have to be 3D modelled or can they be 2D images with the gauges overlaid?

I haven't tried it but you might use the HUD's B2-compass.png and extend it down, adding your own 2D cockpit. Other than that, the only views are those available using the "V" key.
