help with navigation system

Post by Stateofpsychosis »

Okay so I have a few questions about the navigation system

1. how do you set your target after entering coordinates manually... like after i enter the numbers for x,y, and z what button do i push... when i try "set location" it just sets my target to wherever my ship is at on the map...

2. is there anyway to set the target location with the navigation system closed... using my mouse... this would make my picard maneuver much easier to execute.

...i tried to search if this was asked before but didn't turn up anything. weird because I thought i posted a thread about this, but i guess I forgot to hit the post button

Well, after you've entered all six of the location coordinates (Pos X,Y,Z & Sys X,Y,Z.) in the Nav-Comp, are you pressing the keyboard 'enter' key? This function 'locks in' the entered coordinates and 'sets' the way-point marker for the jump. [Or, are you using only the Sys X,Y,Z values and zeroing out the fields on the Pos side?] Once the way-point marker is set in this manner, press F2 key or Nav-Comp 'Launch' or toggle the HUD 'Launch' button. (?)

Using the Nav-Comp is the sole method I'm aware of for navigating this universe, or for setting a target/way-point marker location. Zooming in or out on the system map, or using the map slider are the only ways to view a system map and/or set a nav marker/way-point that I know of. That is, aside from manually entering the coordinates into the Nav-Comp itself. I'll admit that the information in the game instructions are pretty basic. The tutorial on navigation on the Evo-Mercs web site adds a little more information to the navigation knowledge base. And, pilot Marvin has put up a rather definitive navigation tutorial as well. Beyond these sources, it's pretty much learn-as-you-go.

thanks busch.
the enter key is what I needed to push

I didn't try that. thanks..

this is going to be useful because now I can set my location while close to an enemy and offset my coordinates by whatever I want while doing tricky maneuvers.

That is what we call combat jumps or Micro Jumps!
Useful if you learn how to master it ...... until you face someone that can counter it!;)

Or make a jump yourself right after he/she jumped.
Maybe you'll surprise him/her ;-)
