I picked up EM roughly a year ago on STEAM. Instantly became addicted to it and easily logged 60+ hours before getting distracted and temporarily moving on to something else. Just came back and am throughly enjoying all the new upgrade features. Before posting my question I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the developer for making such a visually stunning and addicting game. This title instantly went into my STEAM favorites and now has a permanent home there.
I'd also like to thank the really supportive community (another trademark of a great game). I lurked on the forums many hours picking up pointers, and tips for getting better at combat.
I recently decided to try and move the chat text box all the way to the left. My screen resolution is 1900x1200. I created a HUD folder in the same directory as the EM executable. In the HUD folder I created a chattext.dat file with the following values:
100
255
255
20
50
-7.5
0
Chat text box was a little to far to the left truncating some text, so I played with the -7.5 setting until I got something that was perfect.
The only problem is during the loading screen (after selecting your pilot profile and hitting launch) I get garbage on the loading screen. Normally you see a black background with an EM logo box and a progress box that fills up to 100%.
As soon as the game loads everything is fine, chat text box is all the way over to the left and all cockpit displays and gameplay is perfect. The problem only effects the loading screen.
As soon as I move away the HUD folder (restoring the default pristine install), the loading screen is again as it should be.
Is there some other value I should be tweaking to get both the desired behavior in game AND not trash the loading screen? Video card is GeForce 9800 GT.

Chat Text box question
Glad you're enjoying the game.
The loading screen issue you describe may be one of the unfortunate side-effects of the chat text displacement system (issues like that were one of the reasons it wasn't implemented as a standard built-in option). If you'll post a screenshot (or e-mail me one to the address at starwraith.com > contact), I'll take a look at it to try and determine if there might be a work-around for it now or if it's something I may be able to address in an update.

Thanks for your tireless dedication (and quick response)! I'm initially content knowing I didn't just make a simple rookie mistake. I might follow up with a screenshot, but I can live with it only effecting the loading screen.

No problem, I'll be glad to take a look any time as it's something that should be possible to sort out one way or another.
