If the starter ship had 2 cargo bays to get you started then as you move up to light freighters they'd have maybe 4 then further along, heavy freighters and capitol ships would have 5, that way its something to plan and hope for and it would give you enough cash early on to get ahead without being too greedy. The way the game is now you get everything up front, with little to work towards except armor and speed. Thats fine for fighting ships but traders avoid fighting as much as possible, so some armor, yes but if the area is too violent then they just mine 5x more somewhere else.
Also...maybe I've been spoiled by the X series but, is there capturing enemy ships anywhere in this game...even later on when we have crews to board with? It would be something else to look forward to, when you could fight with enemies and disable their ships then attack and board them. That would add to the combat style a lot. If not oh well, but that's something I play space games around a lot, salvaging, from wrecks or whole ships, even hacking computers on ships your fighting to get control of them, its fun and something you need good quality equipment for. On the X series you need: Transporter devise,2 kinds of fight software, and computer components specially made for hacking, and still need to be within transporter range when the transfer is made...and oh yes their shields must be completely down. So its not a give away I've lost a lot of hull trying to get a better ship, and died a lot too.

You can recover cargo pods from destroyed ships ... even capital ships. As for needing a list of parts to build some pieces of equipment, it exists ... but could be expanded. Right now, you must dock at a constructor station, carrying certain minerals, to build some equipment (but I think all of the same equipment can also be bought retail at a trade station) or dock at a trade station with other materials to build weapons which are otherwise not available on the open market.

Check out the above thread header, krm398. This is where Vice has solicited suggestions for his next major effort, possibly after he's got the Win8/Win8.1 issues worked out for future Evochron universe game iterations. In the past (to current times), he has incorporated player suggestions into game-play. And, he continues to do so, should they meet his standards for fairness and balance for all who may fly the 'airspace'.
