Rookie help - How to select device 2?

Post by Greyson »

Hi guys, rookie here looking for some help:

I bought Evochron Mercenary yesterday on steam and I've been having some trouble with my controllers.

I really want to play with Joystick but for some reason my joystick is being detected as 'device 2'. I think I know what is being detected as device 1 and its not a joystick, however I cant see a way to SELECT device 2 as the device I wish to play with. I can configure it, but I don't see a button to select it as the default device anywhere.

Does anyone know where I'm going wrong, or can point me at a solution?

Use the left and right arrow keys at the top of any Configure Controls menu to switch between devices while you are mapping axis channels and buttons.

Thanks for the reply, I saw that, but that seems to only configure them, when I configure device 2 and exit, it still does not respond because its trying to get information from device 1. I'm trying to figure out how to actually select device 2 as the input device... I've probably missed something obvious but I cant see how to do it.

You don't need to select only one primary device for input, to do so would severely limit what you could control in the game. I'll try to describe how to use the system better (this example is for the axis menu):

- First select which device you want to map a control function to. Once you've selected the device at the top of the menu, move the controller around to locate which axis signal is responding for the axis you want to map a function to. Once you've determined which one it is, left mouse click on that axis channel in the middle of the menu, then click on the control function you want to map it to. Repeat this procedure for all control functions you want to use. You can switch devices any time in between control mapping. So this way, you can use one axis channel on one device to control something and another on an entirely different device to control something else. You are free to map control functions on up to 10 separate devices. If you want to map all of them on only one, you can do that also, just select which device you want to use, then map all of the axis channels as desired to that one device.

Hmm. Thanks again for the quick reply and detailed instructions. I'll take another look at it, I assumed the functions were already mapped to the device but that's probably where I was going wrong.

I appreciate the help!

Edit: Yep you were correct, I needed to map the device Axis to proper commands / input. Silly of me... thanks for the help.
