Hi Community,
Based on what I read in the May Newsletter it seems that change may come in some form or another so I wanted to start a place where we could have discussions of "Future Features." Nothing formal but to see what types of things people are interested in. So here is one idea to get this kicked off and started:
My son just turned 13 and I am getting him interested Evochron Mercenary. What he said to me was "Dad, I want to play this game with you." I thought about this for a while and thought it would be really cool if...
What if we could be on the same ship together with each of us in different roles. For example, I could be the pilot/navigator and he could be my gunner for targeting and shooting? We would have a two monitors, one is 'normal' flight/nav view and the other would be used for the 'gunner.' He could deploy countermeasures and other things that would be useful as he is targeting and shooting enemies.
I am not sure if this could even be done, but if I actually owned my own spaceship, I could see this type of thing happening. It would be fun to have both of us doing different functions on the same ship instead of us playing together on two different ships. Once he got the hang of the game, he may want to fly his own spaceship and then I would just buy him his own game license (i.e. spaceship). Until then, he is learning and we could work as a team on the same ship.
Just wondering what the community thinks of this capability?
Also, please post your ideas and let us see where this discussion section takes us; into the future...
Thanks,
Genjew

Hi Marvin,
I did not find those when I searched, but will take a little time to read through them. Hopefully it will answer my question if this is possible. I think it would be cool to do...
Take Care,
Genjew

Hi and welcome.
Are you aware that you can connect 2 ships in game already? (Requires 2 computers and 1 game key each).
1 is pilot and the other is gunner. (Target each other and press F4. Gunner selects "Gunner binding").

Hi SeeJay,
I just read that capability last night and am excited! Tonight I just so happen to purchase a second license for my son so it looks like it is all coming together. So over this weekend I will give it a try and see how it works out for us. This is totally awesome! It will accomplish two things for me, 1) I am not that good at flying and shooting at the same time and 2) will introduce my son into a simulation environment that we like to watch in movies, but now it is interactive and we are doing it together!
Also, I spent some time reading many of the posts on the links provided by Marvin. It seems there are a lot of good suggestions from the series of questions. There was someone like me who said they too are not that skilled at shooting while flying, so I am glad I am not the only one. When I play with AI, I get blown up a lot even though I have printed and studied and now watched the training videos. There is certainly a technique to master. I have not "had the guts" to play in the online version yet.
One thing I did see in common with all of the posts is that the scaling of the planets is not as critical as having more details in them, like vegetation, caves and deeper water. Another was having varied resources on different planets as this could cause alliances to seek out and obtain specific planets, cause conflicts and mayhem getting the resources one needs.
Anyway, I very much appreciate the advice and knowing the method so me and my son can play together in the same ship. I am totally excited by this ability and cannot wait until the weekend to get him involved.
Thank You!

Great Genjew.
You and your son will have a lot of fun. You can also walk on planets using a TW (Terrain Walker). You need to buy one each tho if you want to walk around together.
For beginners combat, try Olympus System until you get a hang of it.
Do not hesitate to join MP. Very friendly and helpful community both here in the forum and online in game.
You'll learn a lot faster, trust me!
If you fly around in one ship each, you can easily fly in formation even when jumping.
May I suggest that you do the IMG quest. (Can be done together). It will teach you the basics of the game and pay you as well.
If you download the "Over the Hill" quest from my site, you'll have a ton of missions to complete.
The original IMG quest is included. Quest progress on a profile can't be reversed, so if you want to do the IMG and then my quest, you'll need a new profile for it.
That's why I included the IMG into it. The only contracts that must be done in Single Player is the Race contracts. All other can be done in MP.
Good reading is also the Hints & Tips Guide created by Dave. It's available on my site as well.
Have fun!;)

Hi SeeJay,
Last night I discovered the great looking Mods site, the Basics School and saw a history as well. I coped the history to Word so I can get my son to read it on my Android tablet. I downloaded all the mods including your "over the hill" and the new chatter sound. I am in the process of reading it all, getting things back loaded so I can be all informed on everything.
As you can see by my registered date, I have been a member for a long time, but stopped playing just as Mercenary came out for personal reasons.
. Back then I did play Renegades a LOT in single player mode; even though I was terrible as following a target and shooting it down. So thanks for the tip on where to get started with that. Now that things have settled down for me and my son is older I am ramping back up to play again; now with Mercenary.
There is one thing I have in my Evochron file that I have not found for Mercenary yet. It is a keyboard mapping document I got off the Star Wraith web site back in 2007/8. It shows all the keyboard commands that I was able to print off and study. Since I am refreshing myself again, I have not found that for Mercenary. So I am wondering if the keyboard commands are the same between these games? Or is there a link to one specifically for Mercenary? I did not search this blog site yet...
Also, my son told me my call sign was bogus (not his exact words) and so I am working with him to get a better one. Vice says he will change it for me when ready so, one day the phoenix will rise with a better name than Genjew. FYI - It is an acronym for "GENerally Just Engaged Weekly".... lol.
Thank You for everything.

That sounds great Genjew.
Welcome back is more proper then.
You do have the keyboard layout in your default game folder. (C:/sw3dg/EvochronMercenary) or something like that.
If you can't find it, let me know and I'll send you one!;)
