I was just browsing Steam's catalog for games like Darkstar One and came across EM. Turns out this game isn't like Darkstar One. It's much more interesting.

I was going through some stuff and I found my Freelancer disk again.
After playing that a bit I googled for other newer space games.
Found this and decided to buy it on Steam.

Actually it was a complete coincidence. I saw Evochron Legends on a random freegame website sometime in 2008 or 2009, shortly, by which I mean a few minutes, after discovering that ****-fest Universal Combat on the same site. Tried both, obviously hated UC, but I didn't get Evochron Legends to run on the old PC I had back then. Fast forward a few years later, I now had a new PC, and finally wanted to buy Evochron Legends, but saw Mercenary as the newest game on here. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself to buy it, for fear of being ripped off (yes, and I regret thinking like that). Fortunatly, yet a few months later, I saw the game on Steam, which I had no problem with, but doubt that I would enjoy the game, finding the X series which I had bought and tried earlier rather boring and restrictive, so once again, I didn't buy it.
But then in December 2012, the game was 40% off during the Steam christmas sale; and I finally said to myself "come on, I won't hurt that much".
And I love that game, even though I haven't played it much yet.

It was on sale on Steam
and
3 of the 5 voices in my head said this might be 'cool'

The other 2 voices are still arguing about it.
Might need more beer

Been looking for a good space sim for a long time, to no sucsess, until now :)

Found it by typing in space sim on the steam store page, browsed the pages for a good looking space sim, found this and am thouroughly pleased with it.

Vice it might be a good idea to update the steam video, as it was pre-expansion and still has the old graphical quality, which puts some people off (not me though). If people could see that the graphical quality of the game has improved you might have a good amount of people previously put off by graphical quality buying the game.

Great game and a great community to go with it, i hope it continues to grow in popularity.

Was offered as a special on STEAM. Grabbed it because I love this type of game, and always have.

Saw it on Steam a year or so back. I never really played it until now, because I recently bought a joystick and this sort of game really demands one IMO. Have been having a great time in space!

Spotted an article in PCGamer magazine and instantly tried the demo. spent the whole time of the demo getting my joystick configured then forgot what i learned in the tutorial... I picked it up a while later and am very happy - best $25 bucks I've ever spent...

Vice- You sir, are a beast!! What you have accomplished is amazing and you earned another lifelong fan...

Thank you

I second this Vice. It may be a really good idea to update the Steam video's to reflect the 2.x iteration of EM. I checked it after reading this, and as much as it bought me over the first time, new players might really be bought over by the updated graphics. I mean seriously, they are breath taking.

I was checking space simulators in youtube and happened to see this game in the suggested videos part. Thought I'd give it a go and I'm loving it.

WSGF - Wide Screen Gaming Forum
Way back when it was first introduced....as I though the series was dead again, but was recently surprised when it was discussed that it was supporting native resolutions (ie 2560X1600 and up)

Had my eye on it for a time especially after the expansion. Came straight here after the disastrous release of X Rebirth.

I was looking at all the games available from a steam sale about a year or two ago, and from the description this game sounded pretty awesome. I don't remember how much I got it for but I do know it was a steal. I haven't played the game super hardcore, and I've definitely attempted to get others I know to play. But this game coming up as a deal during some steam sale is how I saw this game. Never played some kind of space sim before!

i heard about it after buying another game (spaceforce) and being disappointed that it wouldn't let me land on planets..

so that was the major selling point for me :)

the more options, the more realistic, the more I want to buy it.

it would be cool if a game like this did what the old star trek games used to do subtly. Add minor point and click game elements. Just because for stuff like landing on an planet with an abandoned civilization it would be cool to dig around and unlock the mysteries of what happened to them and stuff like that.
Just adds another level of immersion.

but i don't expect modern games to try things like that anymore. Most people aren't interested in that sort of gameplay that doesn't involve shooting things :P

I do really wish they'd make another game after star trek 25th anniversary and Judgment Rites though.
I loved those games.

This though is the best space exploration game I've seen in a long time.
I really enjoy how they don't let you take short cuts as much so trying to get from point a to point b feels very realistic. Also the handling with the ships and the level of inertia is very realistic compared to other games that feel like they have ACME air brakes :P

I don't feel like i'm just given a list of objectives to complete like homework either like in most new games.
I find that so boring.
You let me explore on my own and follow my own path, you let me land on planets, etc
10/10

major thumbs up to the creators :)

I heard about it first from the Quarter to Three and Broken Forum game discussion forums.

It took me a while to jump into the space sim game market since my last times with the original Descent and Descent: Freespace - The Great War games and considered the X series of games and also Evochron Mercenary. I finally bought my first X series game in November, X Rebirth, which is turning out to be a very poor first game to start out with.

Itching for something to sink my teeth into for the Holiday break, I grabbed Evochron Mercenary and have not looked back. It is taking me a bit to learn and get used to the flight system and navigation, but I am very glad I gave it a shot. I can see myself putting many hours into this for years to come.
