So I just bought this game recently. I had overlooked it for a while and to be honest, I'm not sure why. I guess maybe a jealously crept inside me that this game seemed to follow an idea for a game I've been having for a good while, except had it executed and done about 5 years before I even had the idea. Multiplayer co-op free-form universe exploration, thats pretty much the kind of game I was wanting to make since I hadn't seen it before, until I looked at the feature list for this game.
So, I bought it, and have put about 2-3 hours into right now, and first thoughts were "I just crashed into a station at 2000 m/s, how did I not die?" As lovely as the docking sequence is (I'm reminded very much of the X series), it would be nice to suffer the consequences for a botched entry! I've been loving the ability to fly down onto planets, something that I always wanted out of the X series of games but they focus heavily on economical trade rather than deep seated exploration. Newtonian physics were really nice, although I had to trawl the forums trying to figure out how to beat the race at the start since I kept flying out of the tube even at low speeds, I guess the physics are easy to learn, hard to master. The mining is really cool as well, being able to strip asteroids to get materials to sell at stations or take to distress points for considerable amounts of cash. However, I think the biggest reason I bought this game is for the multiplayer. I've been trying to convince my friends to get this game because I would love nothing more than to fly around the universe with my friends, engaging in wars in hostile sectors and skimming planets at high speed, trying desperately not to blow up from fatal air resistance! However, a £20 price point has turned them all off, so I'll have to wait and see.
There has been one major issue though and thats with the economy, or more specifically the prices. It would seem to me that 100k can buy me the best tech in the game in terms of shields, weapons, cargo bays and wing systems. Considering I can get 100k just for mining platinum and diamond for 10 minutes, seems to skew the difficulty of obtaining stuff a fair bit. Is this to compensate for the absurdly expensive ship frames that require a considerable amount more? Because personally shouldn't it be the other way round? Or at least balanced on both ends?
It's still a great game nonetheless, and I look forward to playing it more later on!

That is so funny!....Would be much more fun if you would bounce of the station as a pin ball or a pool/billiard ball at same speed and mirrored angle of the collision point of Stations rubbery baby buggy bumpers!.....From post: 163546, Topic: tid=10922, author=Marvin wrote:From post: 163545, Topic: tid=10922, author=Thistle wrote:"I just crashed into a station at 2000 m/s, how did I not die?"Don't try that with the station's upper antenna array. Or the entry to a constuctor station. Most everything else is shielded with rubber baby buggy bumpers.

I think you will need a lot more than 100k for some of the higher tech equipment,
Just off hand I can think of 1 item of equipment that's more, a mantis drive, a least a few mil for that.

There is one that starts at 13 million and is at some places 32 million. Another one starts at 6 million and highest price for this one is about 17 million!.....From post: 163586, Topic: tid=10922, author=MiaZ wrote:I think you will need a lot more than 100k for some of the higher tech equipment,

Heh, rubber bumpers! When I meant top tier stuff, I was more on about the ship parts like the shields and engines, they didn't seem nearly as expensive as they probably should have been. As for jump drives, I guess 30k for a Class 3 Fulcrum still seems a bit cheap considering its usefulness, although I gather the higher tier ones will be much more expensive.

Save your money. You'll probably want some of the more exotic components after you max out your frame.
The thing is, though, is that money per se is not the purpose of the game. Money is a way to manage resources, but the main point of the game is enjoying the game: taking contracts, blowing stuff up, and perhaps setting goals for yourself. Think of yourself as an aristocrat rather than a merchant. Sure: you have to have money in order to buy the equipment and go off exploring or joining the cause for Humanity, but money is just a means to an end, not the end in itself.
As for the engines, shields, wings, etc. these components are all fairly standard, and the different ranges in capability are not limited by the size of your bank account, but limited by the size of your frame and how much you can fit in it. So, you must make tradeoffs between engines vs. shields, for example, if your frame will not allow you to max out both. It's not that the level 10 engine is priced so high that you can't afford it, it is that it takes up so much space on a ship that your ship can't afford it...at least, not without trading something else.
Anyway, I'm glad you're enjoying the game. I think all of us at one time or another made a wish for this type of game, and Vice granted it.
