:o Imagine my frustration if somebody convinced Vice to add an auto-save function while I was on vacation ... and, upon return to the game, it auto-saved in just such a situation. Surprise, surprise, surprise.

Hi.

I have been reading this thread and there are a lot of good ideas that would be cool to see. I also see though where a guy could easily spend the rest of their life implementing them all and like another gentlemen mentioned still not make everyone happy.

So I was thinking about that and have come up with a suggestion.

An API framework/plugin system to allow fans to develop their own plugins.

Alot of the features such as the AI controlled Ships not being so random, Capitol Ships docking etc could easily be implemented via a plugin system.

Just my 2 cents worth. If its been suggested and shot down already I apologize.

Anyways Great Game.. Keep up the great work.

One real problem with certain plug-ins is how they could be exploited in multiplayer. For example, if you wanted to create a capital ship then you'd need the ability to define its operating specifications (hull strength, maximum speed, turn rate and radius, etc.). Making it easier for somebody to use a plug-in to modify smaller craft ... possibly making them invulnerable in MP. Consequently, any such mods would need to be limited to single player or to a server where it's understood that players might encounter super-ships.

That does bring up a good point.. But could easily be prevented by making the data that would give a player an unfair advantage read only. I can't think of any reason that someone would need to change the craft op specs, weapon specs, etc

Btw I think having the ability to control a captiol ship would be awesome :D

They do it all the time in MP games where it's possible. Tweaking the specs to decrease the size of "hit" areas. Forcing competent pilots to defend themselves against accusations of cheating ... while those who actually make use of the exploits troll from server to server, disrupting other players until they're either chased away or banned.

Wasn't disagreeing with the desire to do it. Just with the reasoning to let them. Creating a plugin system wouldn't mean you have to give people full access to the internal data structures of the game.. they could be set up as read only properties and then they wouldn't have the ability to modify those structures..

I see no reason why it would have to be full access. Many games have plugin systems that dont give full access and don't allow key variables to be modified.

set it up for single player and multiplayer and have it setup so MP servers can check/uncheck if they want to allow the plugin mods. Tada problem solved. Could also set it up so they can blacklist certain plugins to prevent players from cheating. I love this idea as players could massively change this game and at the same time devs do there changes.

Was thinking more of allowing players to customize the game to there interests. Foe example some players have expressed interest in more realistic docking sytem. Thats not something likely to be added because not enouph players want it. But it could easily be added via plugin where ai ships are queued and guifded in by voice or dock ai etc. Another example would be to have a plugin that modifys jump coords preventing a player from jumping into atmosphere and blowing up. Or preventing the jump drive from engaging at all if there isnt enouph room. When implementing a plugin system its prety easy to control what data can be accesed and prevent modders from changing ship parameters etc, or like fatboy said, have the option to white lidt or blacklits certian plugins on the mp servers.

Sorry for the spelling micstakes, sent this from my nook.

This is one of the frustrating problems when dealing with a wish list: having to remind new members ... who are asking to add options which already exist and known to guys and gals who actually have learned (via extensive play) most (if not all) of the facets of EM ... that just such an option already exists. In this case, the "hey, you can't jujmp there, captain!" option is handled by the navigation officer. If you also made it a plug-in, that would make the navigator a redundant member of your crew. Adding (for me) insult to injury.

I suggest to make more beautiful menu background when entering the station or city.
Here are some examples:

And I think some new station and city menu music would be awesume.

Also I suggest to make many different human portraits that can be shown in Contracts menu, News console and as portraits of AI pilots when player trades with them. I think it must increase the sense of human presence in game univerce.

Portraits. Without checking the Kit, I'm wondering if the Ace face can be modded. And what it would take to randomize a set of faces.

If this hasn't already been mentioned, i would like a way to fluidly go from multiplayer to singleplayer without having to save my game and go through loading screens

EM is it's own game, and Vice has done and excellent job of giving EM it's OWN distinct flavor. THAT is what needs to be developed ALOT more than adding features from other games.
I'll vote for that! :)
Revisiting this... Sometimes drawing from an outside influence is a good thing - just not to the point where that influence dominates the outcome of the original goal.

you just gotta see what would work in EM and what would be totally out of the question.

I can usually guess what kind of ideas have some potential and what kind will never be implemented.

Anything that requires a huge overhaul in the game will most likely not be implemented in the current version of Evochron Mercenary. Just so you know guys, keep it small.

I still don't think it's worth withholding any ideas ever. That's not a good mentality for think tanks and brainstorms. Let the ideas flow and the stuff that wont work can be filtered out in development.

Then again I'm pretty sure Vice appreciate any ideas popping up in this forum.

Those that he likes I'm pretty sure he "saves" for any future games if he decides to create any if they can't be fitted in to the current games.;)

It's not anyone's game but Vice's. If he likes or doesn't like ideas, then it's his decision to add or not add certain features we suggest.

I think that debris from player ships and AI would be nice, maybe limiting it to maybe 100(?) entities loaded per sector. You would find debris floating in space, smashed into an asteroid, or nose deep in a planet.

I'd love to see:

1) More random blackholes, and not the kind with wormholes inside!

2) More gas planets! Found a dozen or so systems since the expansion and not one single gas planet.

3) More things in Andromeda. I've done a nice circular exploration pattern from it and have found nothing new.

4) Bigger gas planets! I mean like massive compared to current solid planets!!!

I have no complaints of the gameplay, with the exception of FT's an PM's being dumbed down. But as an explorer, I'd love to see the Evoverse expanded with a good deal of variety! :)

very local and very expensive technology

would be available in remote systems, very expensive, could be traded or not

exemple when docking a city on this far far strange little planet i got a menu telling me

"we could sell you some of our local tech to give 10% more power to the propulsion system you use..."

"this local and very rare plant could be sold for a very good price on a remote system called "xfcg"..."

this could be more incentive to explore far remote spot, and give some trade/business available for old players who are all sittin on tons of money :)

I think this game is great!!!! The only suggestion is making it more war like.
Once you reached Legends / Admiral rank you could join the Vonari and fight humans. You could jump into a Vonari ship and attack anyone. So you would not have to join a clan but free to make the game interesting. Because your in a Vonari ship they would not attack you.
