Hey tk5800thesecond , just to answer the title of your post directly:
Because of the feeling of awesome omnipotence it gives you when you can say you have your own station lol.
At least, that does it for me.

This should not happen unless in MP it is another playerFrom post: 162281, Topic: tid=8382, author=ELiTe wrote:Actually I found that the "safe haven" isn't that safe. A couple of times, a red ship would fly inside the station and shoot me (yes my own station). Maybe a suggestion for the developer here - disable all weapons inside a trade station? Unless of course, this is working as intended.
This happened both in SP and MP so I just turn around and shoot him back :p

from another clan if you have a different clan tag!
Or unless you fired on a friendly and made him red!.
I never had a red hostile ship enter my own station and attack me!....

@Marvin - well I do that too... 180 for Gate 1, 250 for Gate 2, 330 for Gate 3, 30 for Gate 4 and 110 for Gate 5. I set the course, pitch 0, jump. And I'm right inside the station. I stopped docking manually when I discovered 180 was the magic direction for Gate 1 and 330 was for Gate 3.
@Maarschalk - nope I jumped right into the station and docked. Busy looking at stock prices, deciding what to buy, then I get shot. Could be 2 or 3 mins have passed since I jumped into station.
And if I do not have any missions or contracts in that sector (normally I don't), I just jump from the sector gate into the station. As I mentioned, happened in both SP and MP so it's not a "special case" where I "accidentally shot" someone or a player comes in to shoot at me. When I exit the jump I'm already facing the station almost inside the station gate, no way I could have "accidentally shot" a green guy to turn him red.
That's why I find it puzzling that information found in this forum and in some other places say if I buy a license or I build a station I would be "safe" from hostiles... in my experience I'm not. However, it is true that these incidents are VERY FEW but they did happen.

You will always be safe in any station if you hit the "enter station" button on the trade console after docking.

It does happen ... and probably as often at your own station as anywhere else. The difference being you don't pay docking fees at your own station and prices are usually lower ... often making for a financially rewarding trade run between your own station and one built by Vice.

Yup true, I just seldom "ENTER STATION"
Normally I'm there to refuel and I'm out
Only sometimes I stop to look at stock prices when I hang around a system long enough. Might as well get some stuff in the cargo, complete a kill contract, and dock at the other station(s) and sell off my cargo.

Yeah, had the same thing happen to me in Pearl, @ the Oasis Bar & Grill (where I have a license, BTW). This red Energy dude just came in whilst I was in the bay perusing the IMG Board, and fired me up with his particle cannons. Was so flabbergasted I just giggled, snickered and chortled to myself. Then I went and murdered the little bugger for his effrontery! Was a little involved for a bit, because he called some of his friends before expiring with alacrity. Since Vice changed the AI/NPC Rules of Engagement, this type of red activity has apparently become the new norm, station licensing not withstanding. ALL of the Reds ARE hunting YOU! So, if you're going in to any station, do actually ENTER the station. It may save you some of the AI/NPC griefing.
