I've gone on a few servers recently, and i've noticed that there are very low player counts on servers, and most of the time there are no players at all. i was hoping there might be a way to get some more players into this game, i have a few ideas, and maybe sw3dg might take a look at them, and perhaps other players could too.
steam is obviously a very good medium to advertise and attract players, so maybe a free weekend would be a way to invite players, even at least for a few days, it would be nice to see some people, and put the game 50% or 75% off, i bought it a year or two ago when it was 75% off on steam's daily deal.
also you could ask some game review sites to re-review the game since release.
YOUTUBE BRO. there are many wildly popular game channels on youtube, if you want a serious game player look up sidestrafe, maybe cut him a deal or a free copy, or even LGR (phreakindee on youtube) he does alot of honest game reviews. maybe (i mean MAYBE) yogscast, but i'd rather not see those two bumbling idiots attempt such a game as evochron, they'd probably get lost trying to start the game.
ads on youtube might be considerable, but would be mostly a bad idea seeing as though google only loads ads for things you search, and unless you search "evochron mercenary" then they won't show up, and if you search that, then you obviously already know about the game. TV ads perhaps, but you better bring your wallet. maybe you could ask some of the mods here who also play other space sims like e.v.e. to go spread words on forums, but i don't really know if that would work, or if the post would get shut down and removed.
Well that's all i got for know, my guess is a free weekend might be the best shot to get some more players, even if only for a few days.

I think our best bet is to get the name out there as much you can. I speak highly of EM on various forums, Twitter, Facebook reddit etc. It's probably the best way to get people interested. Word of mouth is a major factor, but also managing expectations of new players is paramount so they know what they are getting. I. E. Telling them to try the demo.
