retrieval contracts issue

Post by stenni »

Hi Guys

I've tried pretty much everything. The retrieval contract mission seems impossible to me. I know it's a few pennies, but I wanted to see what each mission is like.

1) I set my pitch and heading to 0
2) I leave NAV marker unchanged
3) Jump (just F2)
4) No purple blip! Even after much patient flying around

5) I've tried flying manually to see if that works differently, but alas, to no avail it seems . . .

Is anybody else having issues with this?

Hello, you don't have to do anything other than put your IDS to OFF and hit f2 on this type mission. When you come out of warp you THEN watch for a Purple/whitish ( depending on graphics) blip that may not show up for awhile. DO NOT FLY AROUND! You can use your thrusters to increase your traveling speed but do not turn until the Blip shows up which should be to your front and may be off at an angle (when it shows up) up, down, left, or right. Good luck!

Hi Stenni, welcome to the game and forum!......As Thetiebers suggested is your best bet, do not turn from your 0 heading or 0 pitch till you see a purplish blip on your radar than set your heading and pitch towards it. Some times the crate to be retrieved is hard to see, but if you center the purple blip in your radars directional indicator and fly to it and suddenly it moves fast in your radar you got very close to it and might over shoot it!. Another trick you can use to find it quicker is to set your heading before jumping to 180 degrees you will often come out of the jump in the immediate area of the crate to be retrieved and you should see the purple blip immediately on your radar most of the time!....;)

:o The above posts are "old school" ... it doesn't necessarily work that way anymore. Especially if you're doing a recovery contract in a system with either a planet or a star. In a situation like that, it's a lot harder. Especially when near a planet, the pod will quickly begin to fall under gravity. You need to keep your eyes on the radar and watch for the purple blip to zip on by ... then go looking for it in the direction you last saw it.

 Nonetheless, it can be done. And the feeling of accomplishment is a lot cooler. But, if you find it too difficult, then only accept recovery contracts from a trade station which isn't near any gravitational objects. (Btw, cargo pods targeted for recovery do not show up on a sensor array.)

Lol, I had this same trouble when I first started playing EM. If your pitch and compass are on 0, just fly towards the Nav marker. The purple blib on your 3d radar will usually show once your at the marker, if it hasn't already.
Good luck with it Stenni!

I just did several locate a lost cargo missions (not near gravitational objects though) with heading set to 180 degrees when jumping and the object just appears right in front of me and mission complete!.....;)

 Which is why you do those contracts in places without planets unless you're fairly good at chasing down pods which are no longer where they were when you jumped to where they were before you jumped.

Thanks, gentlemen, for the replies. I managed to complete a couple of these mission types armed with your advice.
