Planet draw distances

Post by andysonofbob »

I have still barely started playing the game and it might be that the one planet I have landed on has a thick atmosphere but there's not much draw distance. If this is the case and other planets have different, more visible atmospheres, please ignore this thread!

If not, is there a way to maximise the draw distances for everything?

Thanks!

Could you post a couple screen shots to illustrate?

Do you mean rendering distance?

If so, I believe this is done on purpose to have a balanced performance and planet landing approach time!

If it takes to long to land on a planet and dock at a city planet side the game can get boring and to tedious for some players!
It would for me!.....;)

For sure!

The draw distance becomes fogged over quite near to your ship. From space I can see lots of the planet but once I am in the atmosphere I can't. Of course it could just be the fact that the (now) two planets I have visited are foggy ones!

If it is draw distance, is there a mod or a command which I can use to increase the draw distance? If not, no biggy. My rig can handle it.

I do believe fog distance varies from planet to planet. And if you're flying in clouds, it should be extremely close, so make sure you're flying underneath them.

You should try the UK, Earth, Sol - looks like the middle if our (rare) Summer sunny weather to me! :D

Haze. Fog. Clouds. I guess what you mean by "draw distance" is really what pilots call "ceiling" ... the atlitude at which clouds populate the atmosphere.

I did try to make sure I was beneath the cloud canopy in that screen shot...

It might be that the planet has a thicker atmosphere and others have less; it might be a procedural terrain rendering (if that's the right expression) limitation of the software, which if it is, is no big deal or it might be set that way for maximise performance on older rigs.

If it is a performance related issue, is it possible to remove/push back the 'fog'?

I really should stop tweaking this game and start playing it! :)

 Actually, the weather moves in and out on most planets. Cycles of rain, fog, clear and dry ... come and go ('though, sometimes, really fast). Check other planets.
