Previous game lore?

Post by tlr3715 »

Hello. I'm new to the Evochron universe, and am starting with Evochron Mercenary. I feel quite lost in terms of the world around me when I have been playing. Is there any way to play the previous games in the series or read about previous events and background lore?

It looks like only the new ones are for sale. Also which takes place first in the Evochron universe Mercenary or Arvoch Alliance, or do they take place at the same time? ( I know Alliance was released after Mercenary.)

Try here;

game history
http://spacecombat.org/

evochron universe story
http://evochron.junholt.se/sysinfo/evoc ... estory.htm

I started with riftspace and legends

there are items , places of intrest and info that carry over from one version to the next.
each game assumes you played the previous versions.
it's like starting to watch a tv series in the middle of the season.

Yo tlr3715! Welcome aboard!

Most all of the sw3d games, that are/were crafted by Vice (this game's sole developer), carry along the Evochron Universe story. Although, each explore different but allied aspects of the Evochron story-line. I've some small experience with Arvoch Conflict, Renegades, Legends, Arvoch Alliance, and Mercs I & II. They each and severally, tell a portion of the Evochron Universe story, in their own inimitable fashion. And give you, the pilot/player, much more of an insight into Evochron when combined, than they do as stand-alones. SeeJay, on his web-sites mentioned above, has a more complete compilation of the Evochron Universes' "history". Which includes info about the various sub-plots (game iterations as above) that directly relate to the time-lines and story line of Evochron. I signed aboard about mid-launch of Legends, around Thanksgiving 2009. Bought both Arvoch Conflict and Renegades then, so that I could "understand" more about Evochron. I've been hooked ever since! ;):cool:

Interesting. Does StarWraith 3D always pull the previous game when they release a new one in the series? Seems like a missed opportunity to sell more copies for those that would want to experience past games. Also, if you have a game they no longer sell and your computer crashes, is it gone forever, or can you re-download it somehow? Can't wait to start learning more and getting into the game. I was playing the X series for a bit, but could not get over the poor physics, extremely slow craft speeds, and sparse battles.

Hi Tlr3715, welcome to the game and forum!.....Hope to see you out there some time!.......;)
Your best bet to get the previous games is to send the one man developer Vice an E-mail!......;)

The only comparison I can think of between the X-games and the Evochron Universe of games, is that they're both relatively space operas. You'll not have to suffer thru poor physics or slow ship speeds here. Epic space battles are the rule, rather than the exception. All space war, all the time! That is, if that's what trips yer trigger. But, that's only one side-bar to the rest of what may be accomplished within the Evo-verse. Maarschalks' advice re: previous Evochron game iterations, is more likely your best bet (starwraith.com > contact).

Evidently, the list of games available for purchase has been reduced. IIRC, the following page used to have a few more:

Which game starts the lore of Evochron/Arvoch? Was it Riftspace, or do they all take place in the same universe?

Same universe, different time and story lines. Each explore/expound a different facet of the total Evo-verse "environment". Vice is and has been noteably consistant with keeping the relational story line intact thru each iteration. Not sure, but I think the earlier Starwraith series was the start of the Evochron story. There used to be a web-page on the sw3d games site which listed, and gave a bit of the history, for all of the Starwraith-Evochron universe of games from Day 1 to current. Been a while since I last checked.

This is the closest thing I could find:

http://www.spacecombat.org/

The games are not for sale on that page and the description is mostly of how each game is organized ... not much on the history.
