Nvidia Update many not work well

My computer (windows update) said this update (listed below)was available so I applied it (twice). The update messed up my screen resolution (made it smaller 1200x800 or something like that). It changed mine from the default 1600x900 to a different resolution with no option to get the old default back. I had to roll it back. I tried it again thinking I had done it wrong the first time but again I had to do a roll back. Whats that saying about repeating something and expecting different results (lol)!

I never let windows update my drivers.
bad things always happen.

updateing drivers should be done manually
when you need them, not when windows update thinks so.

Ever since Maars posted about 3D graphics I've been debating updating my nVidia driver to include the now-included 3D option. This has changed my mind.

What operating system are you using?

The WDDM1.2 Driver is for Windows 8 and is the Windows Display Driver Model. You would only need this to make your Graphics Card work with Windows 8 properly. That is if you upgraded to Windows 8!.......

The WDDM1.2 Driver is for Windows 8 and is the Windows Display Driver Model. You would only need this to make your Graphics Card work with Windows 8 properly. That is if you upgraded to Windows 8!.......

I run Windows 7 Pro so windows update SHOULD have known it was not for me then (lol) ! Oh well at least I could undo it.

and sure doesn't understand what OS it is currently

Like SeeJay said, Windows only checks for security updates for itself and for updates for other hardware and other Microsoft products. Now what might have happened in your case is that Windows noticed a Graphics Card compatible with Windows 8(Not all Graphics Card are compatible with all operating systems) and tries to update all the latest drivers for your Graphics card ignoring the fact that you are not running Windows 8!......
