How many people play?

So I discovered Evochron a few hours ago, and am increasingly favoring toward buying it. The idea of a single player and multiplayer world brought together is awesome. I want to ask though, how many people play online?

I know space is supposed to be not a crowded place, but I'd rather not be the one of 20 people on a map the size of a galaxy.

It's not just the number of people. It's also where and if they congregate to do co-op contracts. Even if you're not in a clan, you can usually convince other player to join you in doing a few more-difficult contracts. Especially in a war zone.
