I'm not sure, if this should go to technical support section, but here goes anyway.
So, as the subject says I'm wondering if there is any way to activate a non-steam copy of EM on steam. My friend is about to get this game and he is balancing beetween buying from steam and buying straight from the SW3DG web-site. I thought it might be easier to join eachother through steam etc. so I want to know if that (steam activation) is possible.

Steam - Questions & Answers
I know you can add a Non-Steam game to your Steam account but am unsure if it would be updated and run as would a steam game.

Steam - Questions & Answers
You could add this game to your steam library. However, Steam then would recognize this game as a non-steam game.
In short: You'd have the in-game overlay, but you won't get any automated updates and you won't be able to download it from Steam or create backups etc.
If you want to fully integrate EM into steam then I'd recommend you to talk to Vice about that. There have already been requests for what you want, so maybe he can help you with that

Steam - Questions & Answers
If you want the benefits of Steam, and are looking at the initial purchase then it would be easier to just go with buying it on Steam. You still get provided with a registrations ID and Key which you can get from Steam in any case, and use with a release downloaded from SW3D and installed that way.
I don't think I even had to input my ID/key when I installed the non-steam version. If they are set up to locate/store data in the same folder, I'm guessing that's why.. But I know in the past you could get your ID/key from Steam and input it manually.
So that's the easiest route to take. Just buy it on Steam, you can use it either way and get automated patches, etc.

Steam - Questions & Answers
I purchased the game before it was available on Steam.
Not that it is on Steam, can I...ummm...not only attach the game into my Steam apps but also move the game folder into the standad "steamapps" folder?
Is there a way to get Steam to redownload the game without buying it again and for that new download recognise my current game license?
Thanks!
