¹ This is not just one of the best Star Trek movies ever but one of the best movie movies ever.
² Watch the TV series Firefly first. Actually, first slap yourself for not having watched it yet, then watch it.
³ This is a Swiss movie and is in German with English subtitles. Also, it had absolutely nothing to do with how I chose my name.
⁴ This movie is ok but read the books and listen to the old BBC radio shows, they are the HHGTTG you are looking for.
⁵ Yes, unfortunately, these happened and exist.
⁷ Russian spoken language with English subtitles. Also, Windows doesn't have a superscript code for 6, weird.

The major difference between a thing that might go wrong and a thing that cannot possibly go wrong is that when a thing that cannot possibly go wrong goes wrong it usually turns out to be impossible to get at or repair.

Nice Marvin, Forbidden Planet added !From post: 158182, Topic: tid=10566, author=Marvin wrote:You missed the two best Sci-Fi movies ever:

Though is has a spaceship, I wouldn't call TDtESS a "space" movie so it, War of the Worlds, Independence Day and others like these won't be added to the list.

There are two movies called Solaris based on the novel by Polish mathematician/philosopher/doctor/scifi author Stanislaw Lem. One is Russian and is very cool despite having been made in the 70's. (1970 Tokyo stands in for a futuristic Moscow.) The other Solaris stars George Clooney and is so-so.
Of course the novel is great.

Titan AE reminds me to also add Treasure Planet and Wall-E. Apollo 13 and Space Cowboy's reminded me of The Right Stuff. Armageddon reminded me of Deep Impact, and both together reminded me of the other duo, Mission to Mars and Red Planet.
I don't know if Avatar should count or not, they're in a spaceship in the beginning but the rest of the movie is Dances with Wolv-Blue People.
What does everyone else think, should Avatar be put on the list?
I can never make it through Silent Running, the Joan Baez soundtrack just kills it for me.From post: 158258, Topic: tid=10566, author=Marvin wrote:From post: 158252, Topic: tid=10566, author=hank wrote:Silent Running w/Bruce DernI could never understand the reasoning behind that one. Totally illogical. But poker-playing robots ... that was cool.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate...From post: 158352, Topic: tid=10566, author=Letoras wrote:Blade runner......
One of my favorite movies but it doesn't have any spaceships or even scenes in space, so I can't add it to the list.

The second one introduced Cavorite (well, actually, the book did) ... but the term has been used elsewhere.
