Freelancer with death penalty

Post by Darquan »

Hi, I am new here and I want to play a game that plays like freelancer but has more detail and depth, preferably multiplayer (as freelancer was or mmo). It must have a difficult death penalty and be a challenge.

I had a real go at eve but couldn't cope with such limited control over your ship. None of the other games like evochron-mercenary, x3, star citizen, darkstar one, jumpgate evolution and older ones seem to have any real penalty for dying, does anyone know of one of these or another i've missed that has a mod or server that has a harsh death penalty?

Did you try the "Suicide Squid" start in X3 ? No save, except when you quit the game. When you load your save, the save file is deleted. Dead is dead. But it's solo only...

I think there is a Server for Evochron Mercenary that only alows you to start with a new pilot profile and if you die you have to start all over again!
I forgot the Name of the Server though!.....;)

that would be awesome but for evochron mercenary there doesn't seem to be any dedicated servers, the multiplayer is more like a LAN only type game?

Most of the servers you see listed when checking for MP servers are up 24/7 ... down only for game updates or maintenance. Many of them retain game stuff which goes back beyond the release of the Expansion. They are much more than a LAN connection. So much more that, often times, the server itself will chat with you.

Some have different rules but the big difference may be in their location which effects the ping rate you get.:)

I assume you want the penalty for everyone and not just yourself.

Kind of ruins the atmosphere if your playing tactically and carefully but noone else cares.

 True. But, if you had a "DiD" server, you'd need to forget a few options available to the more daring ... like jumping into a black hole.

I've started and mourned the passing of a few Dead is Dead EM profiles. My record is 21 hours alive, during which time I leveled a full crew, jumped in and out of a few asteroid caves, flew to Rift and walked on a hostile planet with a high pressure atmosphere, only to be killed by an unknown source while AFK in Deep Space.

DiD is great fun in Evochron, you just have to do it yourself and exercise a little RP inspired self discipline.

its the atmosphere from a permadeath server that i like, people taking the game far more seriously, just can't find anyone doing it in this type of game...
