Spoiler Alert
I'm back.
Is there a good guide for using military ships? Most of the guides cover civilian ships very well.
I've started playing with combat ships and they are a whole lot different from civilian ships in how you upgrade them.
I think I figured out the only way to make money with them is via contracts. But I try to upgrade my ship after making a few meager dollars and I can't downgrade one item to upgrade another piece of equipment or add another feature.
Also, I'm guessing I'll have to go to Pearl or some other region to have access to the higher level fighter frames. Or is that an incorrect ssumption?
any help would be appreciated ... especially since this aspect seems to be less documented than civilian ship stuff
have a wonderful day

Any military frame can be bought from any capital ship provided you have the military rank necessary to qualify. Location doesn't matter. Just run contracts in war zones and rack up kills. You'll get paid and your rank will go up.

Thanks to all for the replies.
The reason I have not tried trading is that the little ferret only has one cargo bay. But I'll look into that.
As far as access to higher level military frames, is rank the only way to get access and/OR does location matter? (of course $$ matters) For example some of the highest level Civ ship frames can only be bought in a few places (the high tech sectors like Pearl).
Are there limitations on changes for military frames that don't apply to civ frames?
I can't downgrade that gas guzzling Level 10 engine to Level 9. It tells me that frame won't accept a smaller engine (?).
Do the larger military frames have crews? If not, that's a shame. I would think (hope) I could hire at least one slim shapely female weapons officer to fly around space with. Heck three of my four current crew are ladies (in my feable mind that is).
;-)
Wonderful game ... I can't crank up any other games right now.

Civilian frames are determined by economy. Military frames are determined by rank. You can't get around it.From post: 146794, Topic: tid=9779, author=hank wrote:As far as access to higher level military frames, is rank the only way to get access and/OR does location matter? Only room for one, no matter the frame. From post: 146794, Topic: tid=9779, author=hank wrote:Do the larger military frames have crews? If not, that's a shame. The only thing you can add to a military ship is additional fuel cells ... for those long recce trips. As for your science officer, you can always log into multiplayer and find someone to jump into your gun turret. If she's smart enough, she can also give you scientific advice.

thanks Morbosfist and Marvin. That should take care of most my questions about military ships.
I think having a weapons officer like many Earth bound fighter jets have would be a nice feature in higher level frames. Just a thought.

Most fighter planes have reverted back to single seat. Evidently, today's pilots can multi-task better than their 20th Century counterparts.

You're right ... I watched a show on the latest strike fighters and they appeared to all have one pilot. But fellowship on longer missions would be nice.
;-)
I know one thing for sure; I'm going to have to do a lot of practice SP. I'm getting smashed in military ships.
I don't have nearly the death rate in my plush civilian craft ... with all my creature comforts, buddies manning the controls and those goodies to help me not get killed.

Time to revive this thread.
I am not looking for what I can build at a constructor station (sort of) but is there stuff I can build there that is not available for purchase at stations (both advanced tech stations and any less advanced ones).
Are there items that can be build beyond C5 or X5 equipment at a constructor station? And is the C3 repair unit the best there is?
(I only thought of this when I built a station (in an undisclosed location) and the constructor and ore processor are connected strangely - partially co-habitating - no way to get to one of the constructor entrances ... oh well, why do I need to go there ... thus this post )
thanks and have a nice day

I sent Vice a U2U about it. Instead of posting the location here I thought at this point not to disclose its location in case sombody decided to blow that mess up before he could see it.
I checked just a few minutes ago and they are still embracing one another.

I have a jpeg of it. I emailed it to EM support (I don't know if that's Vice ... the person of that email address helped me out months ago).
that would be cool to be able to build linked stations (or as you suggest, procreate a new hybrid) ...
Heck if you need some Ore to build something in the constructor at my station, simply walk over and get you some.
Have a nice day.

this one is just an observation
When I enter a jump gate at a heading of "0", it spits me out the other side with a heading of "0"
If I enter a jump gate with a heading of "180", it would seem it should eject me out the other end at "180"; but it always exits you at "0"
just sayin'

The Gates must have a built in Protection system to prevent ships from getting stuck in the wormhole or a loop. And automatically orient your ship facing forward, actually at any angle you enter you come out facing 0 degrees!...From post: 156249, Topic: tid=9779, author=hank wrote:this one is just an observation

Back with another ?
I decided to try out hiring wingmen (fleets) to see how they do in combat. I hired a Hunter class ship in Talison and he survived the through a two w.p. mission and I think got a kill. But they're expensive and I'm such a tight wad, I dismissed him/her after the mission.
A couple of observations: I could not get a wingman to jump through a gate from Talison (or Sierra) to a warzone. Will they not go to warzones? I never tried having them jump to another safe sector. They do Ok just jumping around within a system.
Also, I noticed there is a command to have them mine. Does the money they make go into my account? And how do you tell them to go sell?
I looked for a while and this was the best thread for these questions but a definitive and answer I did not see.
http://www.starwraith.com/forum/viewtop ... #pid135554
I'm not sure yet ... if they're worth what you pay for them. I was wondering if they mine for me will the make more than I pay them.
thanks
