Wait a minute, the Mercenary expansion is free?!

I've been absent for a while but decided to pop onto the boards to check on the status of the Mercenary expansion. Am I understanding it correctly that it was released as a free update? That's... insanely awesome. But man, I wanted to give Vice more money.

It isn't developers, its publishers/producers.

The actual game writers have to sell the game to a company to actually manufacture and sell the game. The devs get only a cut of the profits.

Vice, being technically an 'indie', can do as he pleases. I'm sure Steam might get some profits on his sales thru them, but its not like a major company like EA. Steam is mainly a store, not as much a publisher.

Much of the Skyrim DLC is the company profitting on its developers' PERSONAL mods. They were given a week with the creation tools to go to town; they did, and thats how we got the $20 Dawbnguard, Dragonborn, and the $5 Hearthfire. Yeah, they did put a lot of work into them, sure, so really, its fair; the expansions are more than just mods, but thier devs originally made these ideas for themselves.

I'm sure most devs would be generous like this, that's why the intermet is littered with free flash games and such. But at the end of the day.... bills gotta be paid, and time is money... All that time in a game you'd love to give away doesn't put food in your belly or cable in your TV
