There's also a difference between IDS acceleration, inertial acceleration and afterburner acceleration. I found out that inertial acceleration differs a lot more than afterburner acceleration when using different frames.
I tested this in the expansion with an Evoch-E versus a Chimera. I didn't write down any results, nor did I test different engines, so I don't know a lot about this.
All my other relevant tests were done pre-expansion, so the differences between engines and frames should be tested once more.
I know for a fact that changes were made regarding speed and acceleration in the expansion.
I suggest experiments in the following way:
- IDS: Test different engines on the same frame, then test different frames on the same engine as far as the IDS can go.
- Inertial forward: Same as IDS, but with out speed limit. Make sure you go up to 5000 speed.
- Afterburner: Same as inert forward.
- Lateral thrusters: In the expansion, lateral acceleration should be defined by wing class rather than engines.
Use different wings on the same frame, then use different frames for the same wings.
Then do the same with engines, just to be sure.

Is anyone going to 'really' test this?? (engine size vs power reserves for weapons)From post: 154425, Topic: tid=10318, author=Destro wrote:Ah-HA!
I knew there had to be a big thing I was missing, and a part of me thinks I knew that.
Thanks!
I know I would love to see a good review on it....

Sigh..... I guess I will.. Why not? not like it's hard... Just I'm new to this game, I figured it'd be better to let some pro do it.
I'll report back later today when I get time. Of course, things might get nutz today and it may end up tomorrow, but, we'll see.
What I can tell you right now is, My civ mirage with a class 3 engine and class 9 shield has minor power issues with my custom fusion weapons, but simply jumping into the second military fighter (forgot the name), the mil frame with class 10 shield and engine has more than enough power to spare!
Whether this is a property of the frame type, the engines, or the shield generator, is a simple matter to test...

Use the force? I\'ll give you force!

Ya I would have did it myself also but
Was worried about any 'got ya' I may not know about.
right now I am running 6 eng 9 shield and 9 wings and 'could' drop the wings some for more firepower.
I am flying a brick anyway - lol

Have a quick look in the new Techy Guide and see if this is the sort of thing you are after. The data is from a late Expansion Beta. I'm dead interested in being involved and I'll put anything we find in the Hints&Tips Guide and the Techy GuideFrom post: 155696, Topic: tid=10318, author=-splosives- wrote:There's also a difference between IDS acceleration, inertial acceleration and afterburner acceleration. I've been up to my eyes with RL, but intend to test the engines vs guns stuff in the next day or so.From post: 155896, Topic: tid=10318, author=kb5ixd wrote:Is anyone going to 'really' test this?? Sorry for the delay - I offered a few days ago but RL got in the wayFrom post: 155896, Topic: tid=10318, author=kb5ixd wrote:Is anyone going to 'really' test this?? (engine size vs power reserves for weapons)From post: 154425, Topic: tid=10318, author=Destro wrote:Ah-HA!

First test: effect of engine class on cannon fire times
Starmaster frame
custom cannon
fusion laser
Wings: class 6
energy balance at S= -5 / W= +5
Figures are time in seconds to drop for maximum fire rate to slowed fire rate. First figure for range of repeated tests for particle cannon alone; second figure for particle and beam cannon together
Engine Class 1 ----- 5-6 / 16-17
Engine Class 5 ----- 5-6 / 16-17
Engine Class 10 ----- 5-6 / 16-17
Second test: Effect of wing class on cannon fire times
Starmaster frame
custom cannon
fusion laser
Engine Class: class 5
energy balance at S= -5 / W= +5
Figures are time in seconds to drop for maximum fire rate to slowed fire rate.First figure for range of repeated tests for particle cannon alone; second figure for particle and beam cannon together
Wing Class 6 ----- 5-6 / 16-17
Wing Class 10 ----- 5-6 / 16-17
All tests repeated 3 times - stopwatch rounded to half second and values averaged
Pretty clear, me thinks
Edited for typo's

Didn't measure it but on "feel" it was equally fast regardless. Certainly shield - weapon balance has a far, far bigger influence. If you think it's important I'll check it out - probably tomorrow (it's bedtime here)From post: 155928, Topic: tid=10318, author=Marvin wrote:Yup, engine size evidently makes no difference to the power output to weapons. How about energy regeneration time?

Hmm. Guess that makes it pretty clear - how odd. I swore I noticed a difference, but I guess it was in my head.
