Wouldn't windows update computers to newer versions as needed?

When I look in updates it mentions 4 but in a search it shows 1.1 so I'm more confused now than before.:D:mad:

 It probably depends on how old your computer is or if you installed any programs which also installed a versions of .NET Framework. All the installed versions should show up in Control Panel's Install/Uninstall (called Programs Features in Win-7) list.

I've .NET frmwrk 1.1 w/ .NET frmwrk 4 client profile. Mcsft Updater seems to keep things in order, somewhat. Are there some net/server issues to be addressed ?

 I have no idea. Which is why the survey. I'm trying to determine which version to use when compiling a C# program for distribution.

Why wouldn't you use the latest and greatest? It is not that difficult to upgrade for those who do not have it.

 Probably because it's one of those things you totally ignore until you actually need it. Leastwise, that's how it works for me.

But sometimes new is not improved as in Avast. I upgraded and it interfered with Mercenary so I went back until I ended up with a version that worked with the Sim. Not sure if that is still the case but I am reluctant to change again. So in this case if my ".net" works now I may not upgrade for the heck of it.:)

Well in my case Windows 7 Automatic update has not prompted me or told me yet that an upgrade is available for .NET 4.0 and/or to download and install the latest .NET 4.5!
Till than I will not!....;):P:cool:

what compileing tools are you useing to write C# with ?
not all support all versions of .net
see what your software requires or supports and
go from there.

Visual Studio 2012. As my son put it to me:
.NET includes all of the assemblies and libraries required for software development on a Windows platform in order to deploy it across Windows machines without additional components being required (since .NET is part of Windows, you just have to keep it updated....)
And he is using .NET Framework 4.5 with the program. Ergo, if 4.5 contains components not found in earlier versions, then the program might not run on an earlier version.

 Okay, my son sent me this link, which explains a lot about .NET Framework installation:

--> http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archiv ... he-os.aspx

The most important sentence, I think, is this:
[quote]When the .NET Framework is installed as a part of the OS, it does not appear in the Programs and Features (or Add/Remove Programs) control panel.

Yes. I think you do. But my son is writing the program ... and, of all the demands I'm making, that would be the last. He insists on the latest version.

Btw, he's using the WDExpress module. Which might be the same as the one Atollski used.

That is weird, .NET 4.0 is not mentioned in the links article and it has always been there in the Add\\Remove programs in the control panel of my Windows 7 OS!....;):P:cool:

Edited to move the post so it's not inside a quote box.
