FaceTrackiNOIR

Post by soulsacrifice »

Hi, was wondering if anyone has tried out this software? I tried it with Arma 2 when it was first released but it didn't work very well - though I could see potential.

It's had a few updates and it now works with trackir games so i've been testing it out on Mercenary and it has come along leaps and bounds! Not quite as accurate as my freetrack setup but I spent ages building and refining that - All you need for this is a webcam and a half decent cpu. It's definately worth checking out.

After figuring out what the settings are it is just a matter of adjusting them to your liking.

Nope.
I've TrackIR, and really, don't think is such a great addon for ArmA. Or maybe it's me, but I was never able to use it well in ArmA as a soldier. I only use it when I'm piloting.
Glad to see here, a fellow ArmA gamer. :)
Like me, you must love sandbox games.

I know what you mean re: headtracking as a soldier. I turn it off most of the time too because you can accidently tilt while you're trying to walk and it's easier to aim without it. Great for flying though (I don't get on with external views).

To those who haven't got trackir though, this software has the advantage of being free as well as not having to wear a cap or attach anything to your head. Works pretty good now but I can only see it getting better with more updates.

Thanks for this thread, soulsacrifice!
As you see here I was looking for such a method of face tracking. It works fine in EM with "FaceAPI" chosen as tracker source and "Fake TrackIR" as Game protocol.
So thanks again :)

Hey Scavenger, glad to see I could help you find this great bit of software. Update 4 is now out and includes curves so it should be even better now. Going to test it out myself now.

I also want to try this thing out. After applying the old DLL, activating the face-tracking option worked for me.

Problem is, the camera doesn't activate ingame. Did I miss a step or something?

I think you have to update the game list to include EM for it to work at least that is how Track IR works!....;)

I would like to know this as well, or is there any similar software like this that works with EM that acts like trackir? Don't want to spend 150 bucks for the real thing if there are alternatives like this.

I too would like some updated info on this software. I did some quick searching, and most of the posts on head-tracking software are a bit outdated. Has anyone had any success with this software recently? I have a Windows 7 64-bit and a PS3 Eye that the website says it's compatible with, and I really just can't justify going out and spending $150 on equipment for just one game. Also, does this software still need ambient light to function properly?

the 3d headtracking option keeps showing no compatible device, even after I installed the FaceTrackiNOIR software. Does it only support TrackIR official devices only and not 3rd party software such as this?

I have seen players build their own Track IR Device that works with the game, so it should work, I just do not know how!...;)

If you are having trouble, search for the tracking API name in google and download the demo version. This will install the drivers and itll work, I had to do that to get this working with Blackshark 2

Sorry for bringing back a oldish post but being able to use this program is pretty cool, and I don't want people to be discouraged thinking it might not work for Evochron because the latest thread does not have a solution.

1.6 had missing files that would not allow games to find the facetracker. With the new version 1.7 it will work.

if you are using a ps3eye you will have to download the drivers separately for your computer to see it.

On the facetrack website they also have info on making a config file so your ps3eye will be able to go to 120fps instead of the 30.
