Just a couple quick questions...

Post by Steve4220 »

Brand new to this type of game, I am about 8 hrs in and loving it. But I have a couple things I was wondering that I can't seem to find the answers to anywhere:

1. What's the deal with distress calls? I understand what you're supposed to do, but every time one comes up it's so ridiculously far away that I could never get there in time.

2. Am I just supposed to explore space in order to get more things on my map? Obviously I have the Sapphire starting area, but outside of that is just nothing. And some places it shows an asteroid field or space station and when I get there they're nowhere to be found...

I guess that's about it, if someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it :)

1. Until you have a better Fulcrum Drive, don't even worry about them. Their time limits are pretty restrictive, never mind the distances.

2. (I really hope I understand this question correctly) While exploring space is great fun and can lead to finding all sorts of uncharted goodies, it's not really a viable option when you're just starting out due to limited fuel and cash. To travel to different systems from Sapphire, try heading through the jump gates. Jump gates appear as purple dots on your navmap, and if you hover your mouse over said purple dots you can check where each jump gate pops out. To see which systems are connected to which, just check your quadrant map (F1, click on the "quadrant" button in the bottom right).

Also, just some friendly advice: unless you're confident in your ability to fight or run away, stay away from Thuban and the areas "south" of Sapphire for a little while. They tend to be very hostile and can catch new players off guard. Although if you're a miner it can be worth the risk and sprint to Rucker.
There are two great joys in the Evoverse: watching one\'s bank account grow, and making stuff blow up in spectacular ways.

:o There are both friendly and unfriendly systems to the south as well as the north. The friendliest is Atlas which is, admittedly, to the north.

In your Nav Console, change view to Quadrant and you'll see a lot more systems.

They are connected with JumpGates.
In between those systems and outside of the "Core of this map there are many uncharted systems.

Thanks everyone, you've all been a big help. I guess just building up my money is a good way to start, right? Also what's the deal with online play? Is it mostly private servers?

Yup, get some cash so you can upgrade your ship/equipment.

I recommend doing the IMG Quest next.

Online is open servers for the public.
Rightclick on a server when they are listed to see who's online.

 At least three "private" servers run 24/7 ... except when in the process of upgrading.
