Add shadows for the next update

Post by MrDionne »

Hi. I would propose for a future update, add dynamic shadows for our ship and walker. Because there is one thing that is quite obvious is when is walker and that puts 3rd person view, we see that the walker makes no shadow on the ground. Same for our ship. When passing near a station or capital ship, there is no shadow on them.

I'm not asking something big with shadows in ultra high definition with soft shadows in DX11, but just a simple trick that would not be too greedy. It would add a good touch of realism. Even a shadow as "round" under the walker would be better than nothing.:)

A simple shadow like that: http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/201 ... rior41.jpg would be perfect!

 Only if the theme music for when you're in a TW is changed to "Me and My Shadow" ... ;)

I agree. Interaction between player controlled object and environment is huge when it comes to 'real feel' factors.
Which way\'s up?

Shadows would be cool indeed. I already liked the dynamic lights of particle cannons on terrain, but this would be the icing on the cake.

 I never could figure out why Peter would want to go nameless. Peer pressure maybe ... always losing his shadow. The Lost Boys would laugh.

Just disconnect the "shadow identification and removal module" from your HUD system :)

Actually shadows would be cool if they don't slow the fps too much. I've got a reasonable system and fps is down to half it was when I started playing a couple of years ago. Players with less game-oriented kit might suffer, though it might be possible to have an on/off choice in the game options along with the other graphics options

:)
