Two ideas for Mercenary

Post by Deliphin »

Everyone here knows roguelike games, right? The death part, where your save is deleted, that would be kinda fun. It should be an option when making the save (I know having it always on would piss a lot of people off). This would give more action into survival, so people would care more about whether they won a battle or not, because if they didn't, they lose their save. Multiplayer may be an issue with this, but from what I've heard on the forums, servers don't seem to be that full of rdm. (Random deathmatch, or random killing, for the ones of you who now only play Vice's games.)
One thing I have taken in account, is when that bug where people would blow up when they loaded their save (not sure if its fixed or not.), vice asked for the save file, so for the files that are perma-death on, when you die, it should create a file that held all the same data, but is not accepted by the game. This way, you can still send your data to Vice, so he can fix bugs, but you still get that perma-death fun. :D

This next one is pretty minor:
New models. I've always hated how the shields, cargo bay and fuel tanks are just getting larger with the new ones. With fuel tank, it's understandable. Cargo should have one structure for the first, then two with attachment to eachother for the level two, then the third is infront or behind, sideways, then four all fitted in a square pattern, etc. Shields would be different, the level one shield should be a tiny machine that can be put pretty much anywhere, as if it'll have any effect, heh, next one would be two of them, the third would be a larger version of the first, but something glowing, to signify it is more powerful. The current one I personally think would fit the second last shield, as it's a bit large, but it should glow more. With the glowing should cause more visibility as well, so if you want to get in and out of an area stealthily, you gotta have the worst shield, as it emits the least light, and lets say they emit a wave, like a radio wave or something, and that makes it more detected. And for this, should be added (or modified, if there already is a stealth generator in the game), a stealth generator, instead of making you just invisible to radar, it should make you invisible to radar in range, the closer you are to them, the more likely they'll see you on radar. The shields would go against the stealth field, making you less stealthy, but a stronger stealth generator could compensate for even the strongest shield, but consume fuel or something. Or maybe energy, and have the stealth field toggle, this way when in stealth, you can hardly shoot, but can turn it off for a dogfight.

I don't expect these ideas to get in soon, (or ever, maybe. Although the roguelike one should be in, it's a toggleable feature.) but I would like opinion, I want to hear what you think about these ideas, any additions, or parts that you think would not be as great. (Most of you probably play the game a hundred times as much as me.)

EDIT: Pretty minor.. it took up twice the space of the original idea. heh.

The roguelike seems like it only needs two boolean values in the save file, one for if you are playing permadeath and one for if you died.

There is a stealth generator already, it visually cloaks you, cloaks you from radar, depletes your shields, and if you use your afterburner it decloaks you. It might do other things but it has been a while since I took the trip to go and get one.

:o If that's true (about the stealth generator) then I've learned something new today ... and it answers at least one question.

As for the Stealth Generator(Cloaking Device) It already consumes a lot of Energy as you suggest you want it to work, when it used up all your energy you start to decloak and you can not fire weapons when cloaked or when you are decloaking because of not enough energy left and you can not use afterburners because of the same reason. So it takes a lot of skills to use the Stealth Generator effectively!....;)

Always decloak as close to your victim as possible and fire your missiles. You will render your opponent badly damaged if not destroyed.

 Yes, it does. Which is why I have respect for the pilot who can utilize one effectively.

There are two types - one is permanently fitted in an equipment slot. The other are one shot items that fit onto hardpoints. The former is harder to find, more expensive but lasts longer and is reusable!

Using stealth lets you do a capital ship scanning contract solo without firing a shot - what the CAP can't see the CAP can't attack!! :D

I've used one for months ... well worth the price imho. ... its paid for itself in many ways. It uses much energy and other power sucking equipment will render it useless.

Its a scary time when I forget to unload that power hungry equipment before a scanning mission ... I hit the "I" key while approaching reds ... and I see the stealth level start at ~19% swiftly dropping to 3% ... and then the incoming missile message pops up.

:o

Deliphin,

just a simple idea: for your Rogue idea, just take and roll a dice to know whether you will delete your save or not.

An overall Highscore list with points earned would be nice though.
