Marvin's Log

Post by Marvin »

Flying a Mammoth with a crew of three and loaded down with so much equipment there was barely room for an engine and fuel tank, I made my way to the outer extremes of charted ('though not necessarily explored) space. Landing on planet E358, I discovered it would've been smarter to install a bigger engine 'cause the city sold just about everything under the star ... and at fairly decent prices, too.

Exploring further, I discovered a trade station orbiting a dead planet in the same star system. My science officer picked up indications of one or more objects in the sector. Deploying a sensor array, two purple dots appeared within the array's circumference, on or near the planet's surface. Investigating further, it became obvious that the objects were, indeed, on the planet ... buried deep and beyond recovery with a tractor beam.

This star system, being on the very limits of charted space, probably can't sustain the kind of trade expected by pilots of IM. Therefore, unless somebody can find a good reason to colonize and develop this region, I'll abandon it and report the coordinates to CPS Hq for publication and further analysis.

I had the exact same thing on my latest discovery.

 Makes you wonder what all that hidden cache could be ... new, improved (one-off) equipment items? How cool would that be?

Would something like this be attainable by the newly researched Terrain Walkers, Maybe, Perhaps?

:o Depends on how deep. I couldn't reach one piece of equipment to save my life. Even the TW kept digging up useless stuff like gold and platinum.

Is the Tractor beam range related to your weapons range? If so maybe increasing your weapons range in the weapons lab might give you the needed range to dig up the burried cache!.....Just some more thinking out side of the box?.....;):P:cool:

 Problem is, there is currently no tractor beam which specializes in cargo pods. Ergo, you will always end up eating dirt before getting to the treasure.

:o A combination of three files. But I'm a little disturbed about the fuzzy screenshot ... considering it's a PNG. (Curse you, Photobucket, for going "social media" on me!)

It seems small wormholes have been popping in and out of the Evoverse. I got caught in one earlier today, while attempting to make planetfall on Atlas Minor. No sooner had I received confirmation that my ship had switched to planetary mode when ... whoosh ... there I was, back in space. With Atlas Minor half a sector away. An immediate second attempt fared no better. Hours later, the wormhole had evidently destabilized because, while executing the exact same approach, I landed and docked without incident.

Yes, please do. It would be nice if other players than just me posted some news there from time to time.

:o I can't. It would require converting the Log entry to a journalistic style (who, what, when, where, why and how). And I'm too lazy to do it.

IM Tour Service

The Guild of Independent Merchants is embarking on a new proposition: tours through Rift Gate. Your trip begins at one of IM's select stations in Orion: Gateway. For those who don't yet own a Mantis Drive, IM will loan you one (at a small additional fee) for the duration of the trip through the Gate. With a Mantis at your disposal, you then Form up with the IM tour guide, who will lead you across uncharted space to [IM] Ellis Island. And, from there, through Rift Gate ... into the very hub of the Evoverse. Where a cluster of artificial wormholes take you to one of a select group of exotic star systems.

Sign up today by sending a U2U to this address, stating your time and date of preference. IM will do its best to accommodate each and every tourist.

 It comes with a tractor beam. If you can find fish in a submerged cargo pod, then, yeah, it has fishing gear. ;)

 And, if Starbuck is your tour guide, you'll be getting a trained, experienced driver. One who will stay awake, even on those long, boring hops across the galaxy.
