Awesome things about 2.X

Post by oni14128 »

If there is already a similar post, please delete. If not I thought I would start a thread as a catch all for Evo 2.X awesomeness.

Is it just me or does it feel like the ships are weightier? Was flying my Mammoth with Mk I Neptune and it just seemed like I was flying a multi-ton space craft. It felt like it was taking longer to accel if I was going full throttle and did a 180. Not a complaint by the way, I love it. Really adds to the tension when 4+ enemies are out for blood and you life depends on getting back up to speed before they make the next pass.
Other things on the awsome list:
Main Menu
New console designs
Graphics
Weapon Lab (played around a bit, still haven't made one)
Planet ring swirl effect during fly through
Vice

Keep up the great work.

Indeed, the weight factor has been brought in the game more significantly now. Light ships will accelerate a lot faster than heavy ships.

I may actually switch to a lighter frame now. I actually kind of like the look of some of the lighter frames more than the Starmaster or the Mammoth. XD

That's what I thought. Does this mean that kinetic weapons will throw ships around more or less?

Two strengths of this game - 1: the supportive community and 2: Vice who listens to 1:

As opposed to a lot of AAA developers who screw up a previously great game just to implement some stupid gimmick. Gonna rag on mass effect here (still a great game in my opinion) 1st game did a lot of things right. Planet rover not being one of them. Good character development though lots of items for modification. 2nd game poor char dev and few item mods. 3rd game best of both. It seems like bioware didn't listen to the community when making the 2nd game then tried to fix everything in the 3rd.
What I'm saying is, thanks vice for listening to the community in the first place.

Hands down, the coolest things about Merc. 2 are the planets. Planets have always been pretty in the Evochron universe, but they are REALLY GORGEOUS now--a sight to behold.

An awesome expansion. I've only flown 10 minutes (in awe) and tried out the dialog boxes for Nav and Inventory; looked at both the civ and military shipyards; looked at the weapons lab like a deer in headlights ... I'm going to have to go to school for that one ... I can't wait to go visit all the systems and eyeball with wonder at all the planets.

Main message ... Thank you Vice.

... and have a nice day

I did the same thing with the weapons lab when I went home during lunch to play. Looked at all the different types available and the options for adjustment and was stunned with awe...and maybe a little giddiness too.

I am dreaming of a slow firing heavy rail gun with the range maxed out.

There's so much awesomeness in the expansion, but if I had to pick a few things:

- The graphics are absolutely mind blowing. Especially the way the planets looks now is epic.
- Haven't seen this one mentioned before, but I absolutely love the music.

Yes, good exploration tunes make you feel at peace while conveying an empty lonely vibe. Then an enemy warps in and the accompanying music makes your pulse quicken

Just played a contraband mission planetside. That was so much fun. Finally found my target as he was making a break out of atmo. Was maxed out in velocity and 2.5k away. Managed to cut off his angle and headed him off. Very immersive as opposed to warp in and shoot missions.

I haven't seen any contraband missions...is this a new mission type with 2.0?

Other than that, this is an amazing AND FREE update. I thought Vice was going to charge for it, so when the announcement hit I was a bit confused. Hell, I woulda gladly plunked down some cash.

 Contraband contracts are indeed new to EM. And the easiest way to do them is planetside. 'Cause it's a lot busier in outer space.

;) P.S. You need to have a cargo scanner installed before you can do 'em.

You could always buy another copy!

We discovered tonight that ships now drop equipment when they are destroyed, and you can walk on top of buildings with the terrain walker!

Wow, I never noticed those! Never seen them on space stations either btw. Although I haven't played a lot of contracts either lately. Any tips as to where I might find contraband contracts, and how I can recognize them?

I found a little bug about speed number while undocking from station : it show a speed x before the blue screen of the "door", then it show another one after... it's a little disturbing.

Yesterday got 2 situations with simple contacts, go to navpoint, clean the panel, i go to navpoint, clean panel, but it stay as if i never go to navpoint, even if i go in and around and under and all :) dunno

Maybe something to investigate to make the whole stuff turn round :), or maybe i've done something wrong but...

The contract reads like, "due to the embargo on 'commodity name' alliance navy would like you to track down and destroy the smugglers." Something along those lines. Pay attention to the commodity it asks you to scan for, I didn't on my first one and flew around forever looking for a ship with 'contraband' in its hold. Lol

That's pretty cool, thanks for the tip. It'll be cool to track down those ships, tractor in the goodies and sell them on a Rebel base or something. Black Market trading!

 If you accept a "smuggler" contract in space and don't find the actual smuggler ASAP, you might be swamped with targets as more ships enter the sector. In that situation, I have only two pieces of advice: (1) the smuggler hangs around so watch how far you wander from the waypoint ... jump back to it if your search takes you too far away; (2) if you get really frustrated, cancel the contract and try accepting the same type while planetside ... where fewer ships will enter the search area.

This is an admiration for Vice's programming skills. The download size is amazingly small for what the program does.

I looked into downloading WC Saga, the latest Wing Commander game. That download is 3.4 or more gigabytes (I know it has some big video files but wow that's a big dL). Heck, I have good internet connection and computer ... I never let it go more than a few seconds because it would take 12 HOURS + to download it. I've downloaded some big stuff but no game that big.

I get more bang per byte with this game than any other I can recall. It took 45 seconds to download. I set the planet modelling to the best and that only took a few minutes.
